Newsday has Mark reporting on another (!) possible project - Worcester
Cold Storage.
Based on a true story where a fire killed 6 firefighters in December
of '99. Michael Mann is the director at the helm and be produced
by Ron Howard's Imagine Productions. It's based on a non-fiction book by
Sean Flynn named "3000 Degrees: The True Story of a Deadly Fire and the
Men Who Fought It." However, what may stand in the way are the families
of the dead firefighters who were quoted earlier this year they opposed
the project -"And I don't care if they pay us a trillion dollars."

Southtown and Providence
Journal via Ohio.com.
Southtown
interview reveals a bit more about Mark's Huckabee character: "One of my favorite young writer-directors
has written this part specifically for me, so I am blown away by that. I
can't wait to start."
The film will star Dustin
Hoffman, Lily Tomlin and Catherine Deneuve as existential detectives.
Wahlberg is cast as a New Jersey fireman who refuses to use anything
that is operated by petroleum products.
"So I have to ride my
bicycle behind the fire truck. But we live in a small town, so it is
easy to get around."

Interview with F.
Gary Gray.
Mark on F. Gary
Gray: ``Italian Job'' lead actor
Wahlberg, who has worked with such critically acclaimed white directors
as Paul Thomas Anderson (``Boogie Nights''), Jonathan Demme (``The Truth
About Charlie''), Tim Burton (``Planet of the Apes'') and David O.
Russell (``Three Kings''), says Gray's impact on his latest film was
formidable.
``The studio was hoping to have this kind of Benetton ad of a movie,
but it was Gary who really pulled it together,'' Wahlberg says. ``They
would have gone a little bit more down the obvious route. And Gary did
make it stylized, but he also worked well with the actors, allowing us
to have fun and joke around and develop our characters. A lot of
directors have a shot in their head that's more important than what the
actors are doing. Gary's one to make the actors as important as
everything else.''
Watch for the Hollywood Premiere on Access

Early reviews of TIJ from The

If you haven't seen yet on the official
site, there's a premiere in Las Vegas and YOU can buy tickets to
attend it. And YES Mark will be there. Tickets range from $75 to $500 -
with the higher prices include the pre/after party at the Palms!
And your money goes to support both Mark's foundation & the Andre
Agassi Boys & Girls Club in Vegas. :)
FYI, Mark was
indeed on 106 & Park yesterday with Mos Def. Seems one of the hosts
was in his video Good Vibrations and boy did his Boston accent come
back. :) Don't forget Conan O' Brian tonight!
Mark mentioned
that his house was still under renovations - 2 YEARS after he bought it
on Letterman and with TeenHollywood.
From USA
Today: Mini Coopers get the 'Job' done
Director F. Gary Gray
jettisoned all the characters and much of the plot from the cult 1969
Michael Caine movie The Italian Job.
But he wanted to keep the
heist that could be executed only with Mini Coopers during a traffic jam.
"When I read the script, I
wasn't actually sure that they were coming out with new ones," says Gray
(Set It Off, Friday). "I thought we might have to use
the old" Minis, as last summer's The Bourne Identity did. "It was
actually a coincidence that they were going back into production. Now I
wish I had stock in BMW (which now makes the cars). I love the old
ones, but I really love the new ones."
Mini USA, which first
showcased the car in last summer's Austin Powers in Goldmember
(Caine got to drive one again), provided Gray with 30 cars, including
three special electric Minis that aren't available to consumers for a
subway chase scene. "No combustion engines could be used," Gray says.
Gray preferred wrecking real
cars to simulations because he says audiences disengage when they
suspect action is not real.
The Minis turned out to be
frustratingly safe. "We had to disconnect all the safety features," Gray
recalls.
In one remarkable shot,
Charlize Theron screeches into a small parking space between two SUVs.
And yes, that really is Theron driving.
"When we sent our cast into
training, it was less about training Charlize than trying to hold her
back," Gray says. "I saw her do two reverse 180s with two cameras
mounted on the car. She would test the car beyond its limits — and I
would totally freak out."

This is what happens when you work full time, huge updates! Don't
forget to watch the Today Show & Letterman! If you missed the Today
show or don't get the Today show - RUN don't walk to MSNBC and check the complete interview
(Windows Media required) as it may be gone by tomorrow!
Doh! The
morning show on CBS is actually called the Early show. Shows you how
much I watch it, eh? Still no date for it tho. In a related note - I
checked BET's website and I don't think Mark's on the 25 Countdown as
that airs on Saturday. He's listed instead with Mos Def in the 106 and Park
show page - which is BET's answer to TRL for you MTV folks. So adjust
your VCR's accordingly! Don't shoot the messenger - I can't believe
nobody told me this and his peeps screwed up! Well one of those I'm not
surprised - guess which.
Mark talked
about some future plans with the Chicago

Donnie!
Speaking of
Donnie, he was on Extra
tonight and talked about Boomtown, Mark and even dropped his pants to

News from
Cannes regarding The Jacket - the project Mark will be doing after
Huckabee's from Screendaily: Summit dons Maybury's Jacket
Mike Goodridge in Cannes
20 May 2003 04:05
Summit Entertainment has
added The Jacket, a new film from Mandalay Pictures to its sales slate.
Mark Wahlberg is attached to star in the lead role of the drama which is
the first US film from the UK’s John Maybury (Love Is The Devil).
A co-production between
Mandalay and Section Eight, the Warner-based production outfit of Steven
Soderbergh and George Clooney, the film will be distributed domestically
by Warner Bros, although it is unclear as yet whether it will go
through Warner’s main distribution organisation or a specialised
division should the studio opt to create one this year.
Wahlberg, who has become
associated with blockbusters such as The Italian Job, Planet Of The Apes
and The Perfect Storm, stars in the intimate drama about a clairvoyant
man wrongly convicted of murder who must use his abilities to discover
who has framed him by shifting in and out of different realities, time
and frames of mind to solve the mystery and prevent his own execution.
The film was originally
written by Marc Rocco (Murder In The First) and had at various times
Rocco and Antoine Fuqua attached to direct, although it has now been
recrafted as a smaller film. A new draft of the screenplay has been
written by Massy Tadjedin (Leo).
Soderbergh, Clooney and
Peter Guber will produce the film which will start once Wahlberg has
finished his stint in David O Russell’s ensemble comedy I Love Huckabees
opposite Jude Law, Dustin Hoffman and Catherine Deneuve.

If you've seen the trailer of the minis going down the LA subway and
wonder how they did it - the NY Post tells
all as did the LA
Times.
First print
interview with Mark surfaces with our neighbors to the north - the Toronto
Star.
I just keep on
adding TV dates for Mark - must be making up for the lack of them from
his last movie. Directly from his peeps - he's set to be on BET's Top 25
countdown Tuesday.
On the
otherhand, doesn't look like Norton's doing ANY publicity for TIJ - but
you can still catch him on TV - Bravo is running his Actor's
Studio episode this Saturday and Sunday is Donald Sutherland's episode.
Charlize also is a guest on Conan Friday.
Charlize is in
the June cover of Elle
Magazine and mentions how Mark asked her to join TIJ.
The Truth About
Charlie finally opened in The
UK/Ireland Friday. Not many positive reviews - so I'll spare you.
While waiting
for TIJ to open, check out Down
with Love - the hilarious Ewan McGregor/Renee Zellweger film that is
a true homage of the Rock Hudson/Doris Day films of the 60s.
05-15
Check your local morning radio Friday, for the Kidd Kraddick in the morning, Mark
will call in. Looks like mainly a Gulf states show, but check out the
syndicated channels on Kidd's page to see if you get it.
Another from
the BBC - a short interview with Seth
Green about TIJ.
05-14
Added the TV Alerts to the Calender and one more to add, Mark
will be a presenter on the MTV Movie Awards - which airs June 5th
(but is filmed in LA's Shrine May 31th). Also heard Mark was in
fact at the Kings/Mavs game Tuesday - shooting free throws on TNT's
halftime show, while Charles Barkley & Kenny Smith trash talked on
the Celtics to throw him off. LOL
Interviews from CSU
- Sacramento's Hornet, Uni of Mo -
St. Louis' Current, and a review
of TIJ from Tufts.
Also word that
the TIJ game hits shelves June 20th. Check out the official
game site for screenshots of the game on all 3 formats. Also look
for wireless games to show up for java-enabled cell-phones and
other electronic toys from Mforma Group, Inc.
Wonder who was
doing some of the more dangerous driving in TIJ? It wasn't all Mark. The Sac
Bee had an article along with a clip of the stunt driver doing some
of his stunts Tues in Sacramento and the Baltimore
Sun also had an article about another stunt driver. Speaking of
videos & Mini s, ifilm has a
really great BTS clip for the film.
And from the BBC
is confirmation of what Mark prefers you don't call him if you should
spot him.
05-13
TIJ interviews of Mark's co-stars:
May 22nd -
Today (NBC) & The View (ABC) Seth Green
May 23rd -
Today (NBC) & Regis and Kelly (ABC) - Charlize Theron
Also people
have emailed me about Kickin' It (Syndicated) - which I used to get, but
seems my local stations don't seem to have it. Anyway, Mark is listed as
a guest. So really check your local listings and don't panic if you
don't have it either.
Sky
(UK) had this little article from the Tribeca Film Festival: STAR'S
SICK MOVIE ROLE
New York's
prestigious Tribeca Film Festival has closed with the premiere of action
blockbuster The Italian Job. Mark Wahlberg, who was one of the stars who
turned out for the screening, said he enjoyed recreating the Michael
Caine classic - though at times it made him throw up.
"It was the
most fun that I ever had had on a movie - we were always having fun,"
said Wahlberg who plays Charlie Croker.
Robert De
Niro - who was co-founder of the film festival - was also at the
premiere, along with veteran actor Donald Sutherland. Sutherland has a
brief role in the movie, playing Charlize Theron's father.
Bullion
heist
The new
version of The Italian Job is only losely based on the original and is
largely set in the United States. It follows a set of criminals who pull
off an amazing gold bullion heist only to find they have been
double-crossed. This prompts them to embark on a spot of revenge, which
of course involves plenty of spectacular car chases.
A blast
Wahlberg
added: "In the passenger seat I was sick all the time, because I get
motion sickness very easy.
"But driving
the car was a blast - as long as I was in the driver's seat, I was
happy. It's the same with everything in life - I want to be in control."
The Italian
Job opens in the US at the end of the month - but UK audiences face a
long wait - it is not out here until September.
There's a few
articles leaking out up North (ie Canada) one with Charlize
talking about her safecracking and Donald Sutherland talks more on his
career than TIJ, but there's a pic of him & Mark in Venice from Canada's
Star. UGO
had a short interview with Charlize as well.
Hmm, I must be
really busy to have totally forgot to mention the date of the TIJ
Premiere. Granted the Tribeca film fest was really the World Premiere,
the LA/Paramount premiere IS in 2 weeks at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in
Hollywood. I've been told its a private
charity event, so don't ask me how to get tickets because you can't
unless you're really connected to the studio. Which means I don't have
any either!
05-12
The soundtrack to TIJ will be released May 26th and will feature a
cover of Pink Floyd's "Money" by The Project or as MTV reported today:
now known as Reloaded - which features Stone Temple Pilots' Scott
Weiland and former Guns N' Roses musicians: Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan
(bass) and Matt Sorum (drums). The cover also features David Kushner on
Guitar.
OT: Boomtown
was renewed for next season. X-Men 2 is great and so is Bend It Like
Beckam - go see 'em. Third Eye Blind finally released their 3rd album,
Out of the Vein!
05-11
First reported in the Washington Post Wednesday, Gwyneth Paltrow is out
of I love Huckabee's. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Naomi Watts
is in talks to take over the role.
By the by, Mark
was at the Tribeca Film Festival with the cast of TIJ (no Norton - he
was at Salma's Tribeca entry film premiere or Theron she was in the UK),
director F. Gary Gray, producer Donald DeLine AND Robert DeNiro! Not
really a surprise DeNiro was there as he helped establish the festival
and institute, but if you remember Mark has said in the past he wanted
to work with him one day. Pics over at wireimage & elsewhere.
05-09

From PR
Newswire: Eidos Interactive, today announced the development of The
Italian Job(R) video game. Based on the 2003 Paramount Pictures
blockbuster film, The Italian Job is being developed by driving-game
specialists Climax and will be released on PlayStation(R)2 computer
entertainment system, Xbox(TM) game system from Microsoft and Nintendo
GameCube(TM) in Summer 2003.
The Italian
Job lets gamers recapture the high-octane thrills of the blockbuster
movie. Taking on the role of Charlie Croker and his gang members, you
are left for dead in Venice after being double-crossed during one of the
biggest gold bullion heists ever. Now you and your team of professional
thieves must wreak vengeance on the man who betrayed you and reclaim the
gold. In order to achieve this, you need to create the biggest traffic
jam in L.A. history and attempt your getaway in super-charged new MINI
Coopers.
The Italian
Job game features three modes of play -- Story Mode, Circuit Racing and
Stunt Driving. The Story Mode is based on the film's plot and features
15 different missions utilizing a large range of vehicles and gameplay
styles. Players will also be able to challenge friends in The Italian
Job using its split-screen two-player mode. Gamers will create havoc on
the streets of L.A. as they drive at break-neck speeds through
environments based on movie locations including Hollywood Hills and
Downtown L.A. plus over-the-top off-road settings such as the city's
subway station and storm drain system.
Mark actually
was in NY yesterday for TIJ Press conference. Donald Sutherland, Jason
Statham, F Gary Gray & Donald Deline were some of the others there.
05-08
Mark was in town - Boston that is - where he screened TIJ for some
B&G club members.
A little birdy
told me of the scheduled interviews for Mark: The Today Show, David
Letterman, Howard Stern (radio), Regis & Kelly, Conan O'Brian, MTV
Beach House, The View and the CBS Early Show - Dates TBA here & on
the official site very soon. Also on US cable, MTV will have a Making of
special. Showtime will have a very short segment on its Movie News - its
a 15 min program.
Check the Official TIJ
site for more stills from the movie and new wallpaper.
04-28
As I told you last week. the movie appears at the Tribeca Film festival
on closing night (May 11th). Tickets are not yet available to purchase
but keep a look out at their webpage.
Please don't ask me when you can as I don't work for them much less
live in NYC!
Not officially
confirmed but a big possibility from the Hollywood Reporter: Mark
Wahlberg, who returns to theaters next month in a Paramount remake of
"The Italian Job," is reteaming with the studio on a project described
as a contemporary Indian Jones.
Sources have
confirmed the actor will star in "The Adventures of Wyatt McHenry," a
manuscript that launch a series of yet-to-be-published novels by Rick
Gibb. "Adventures" is about an adventure tour guide who trades in modern
antiquities. Gibb also wrote the screenplay.
Wahlberg,
whose recent credits include the remakes "Planet of the Apes" and "The
Truth About Charlie," is attached to reunite with his "Three Kings"
director David O. Russell in "I Love Huckabee's" at Fox Searchlight.
04-18
May 11th, The Italian Job premiere's at the Tribeca Film festival in
NYC. Expected (tho not confirmed - so don't book your flights just yet)
to appear is Mark! More news as it develops.
With the sneak
previews last week, we are starting to see early reviews of TIJ from
these screenings. They range from positive to negative. Here are some of
the longer ones (watch out for spoilers) from Yale, Tollbooth, Grabbing Sand
& one
posted on Rotten Tomatoes.
Jason
Schwartzman who will be in I Love Huckabee's, is currently in the indie
film Spun (and is in the rock
band Phantom Planet). Also check out Laurel Canyon - Wally
Pfister worked on it and The Italian Job. Alessandro Nivola does a
really good job of singing and stealing scenes. And if you're lucky to
be near one of the 15 theatres it's open at - check out Better Luck Tomorrow.
Very funny black comedy about a couple of seemingly perfect students and
how they end up hearing a cell phone go off underneath them.
04-14
This week means
more pics from TIJ, Paramount's publicity dept contacted Mark S.
late last week and he's working to put up all the exclusive pics on the official site. While that is
being done, whet your appetite with Movies.com's
selection.
Check out your
local Universities as there are/have been some advance screenings of TIJ
at several schools already - Brown (April
10th), Yale (April
11th), U of Texas (April
15th), U of GA (April
14th), Texas A& M (April
15th), Eastern Michigan University (April
11th), University of Chicago (April 22nd) and
some film societies are hosting them as well - in Atlanta (April
10th), Florida (April
15th) & Seattle (April
16th). NYC had a screening Wednesday as well. Radio stations will
also have early screenings in May - so do check your local radio
stations as well.
04-11
TIJ is already
drawing ire from some in the UK - a Bristol
newspaper had an article bemoaning the remake.
Word from the Hollywood
Reporter & Variety
Mark is attached to Section Eight and Mandalay's The Jacket. A
drama that could be ready to film by the Fall if producers George
Clooney, Steven Soderbergh and Peter Guber are able to get WB to
finance/distribute it and sign on UK director, John Maybury. HR
reports The Jacket "is about a man (Wahlberg) falsely imprisoned
for murder. While being tortured, he is able to foresee how and when he
will be killed. By moving through altered states, he tries to figure out
a way to prolong his life so he can solve his own murder." Sounds almost
X-File-ish - Redrum comes to mind.
In other
upcoming/past Mark film news, I Love Huckabee's is in
preproduction and suggestion is Hoffman & Tomlin are the detectives
according to an article about David
O. Russell in the LA Times. It's a very very good article about Three
Kings and how the old adage of if we fail to learn, we are doomed to
repeat things, seem to be playing out. The NY Times
also had a similar article (no mention of Huckabee's tho) that
explains how to the whole bullet in the cow/cadaver story came
about.
04-09
Apple finally has
various sizes of the TIJ trailer in their quicktime format. Check out
the TIJ
trailer page. For Windows Media check out Movies.com.
Thanks to
PompeyGirl who checked out the Odeon website (major movie house in the
UK) and saw TIJ
is listed as opening Sept 12th.
Another review
of TIJ from AICN.
Other news is Variety
reporting I Love Huckabee's will start filming June 9th and will
be distributed by Fox Searchlight (20th Century Fox's indie arm) in the
US/Canada, Germany, Italy, Latin America and other English speaking
countries. Qwerty Films is the distributor in France, Spain and
other territories to be determined.
04-08
Kazuko found JoBlo has a slightly
out of focus version of the new TIJ poster.
I've gotten
several emails regarding an email sent out to people who have registered
on MW.com's MB. You are not being singled out. It was sent to the entire
membership base - I got one too.
04-07
AICN has another
review of TIJ from a test screener.
From Marilyn
Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith syndicated column is a bit of a review and
word on how the test screenings are playing with audiences: Though
Edward Norton might not have wanted to star in Paramount's remake of
"The Italian Job" -- in fact, he told colleagues he'd never work with
Paramount again because he felt he was forced by a contract provision to
make the film -- early test screenings suggest it could very well turn
out to be a box-office hit. A hit is something the actor could
definitely use, given his last big-screen outing, Spike Lee's "25th
Hour," which has only brought in a measly $13 million stateside.
"Italian
Job" certainly has an all-star ensemble cast with Charlize Theron, Mark
Wahlberg, Seth Green, Mos Def and Jason Statham.
There's also
a hip soundtrack. And though at times the elaborate Los
Angeles-based
heist flick feels a bit like a glammed-up car commercial for the
BMW-made Mini Cooper, it delivers big on the action in the final
act...
04-06
Here's another of Mark, Jason &
Charlize. Kazuko found the Official movie
site is up and the trailer
is up as well so you can see the whole trailer for yourself.
I must warn you it is filled with spoilers - granted it's a remake
- oops sorry homage - but its a pet peevvee of mine when trailers give
away 80% of the movie away.
Got my copy of
TTAC & for those wondering what was in the wrapped present - its
shown in the deleted scenes. The disc itself is pretty plain - no
graphics printed on it, so you have to be careful you read it or you'll
be watching Cary & Audrey instead of Mark & Thandie. I'll have a
more detailed review later when I have more time to watch the rest of
the disc.
04-04
Via Edward-Norton.org, The Trades
had a screen shot of Ed & the back of Mark from the trailer. But
this is a Mark Wahlberg site so I managed to do some magic and captured
this opposing shot. Nice eh?? Also the trailer shown in theatres is much
longer than the ET version.
04-01
MTV
had a short article with Director F. Gary Gray commenting on Mos Def
& filming of TIJ. In a somewhat local angle, an
actor (Greg Cummins) round my parts had a role in TIJ. And
those wanting a taste of Gray's style - the much delayed A Man Apart
(aka Diablo) starring Vin Diesel & Timothy Olyphant (Rock
Star) opens Friday in the US.
03-31
According to Mark
S. - webmaster of Mark's official site - TIJ trailer is playing in front
of The Core. I'm somewhat surprised it hasn't popped up anywhere online
yet. It has been very lowkey as usually big movies, people find out
which movies the trailers are attached to before it airs and official
websites go up when these first looks go on tv. Remember POTA? ET hardly
mentioned it in the promos or during the little 10 second blurb they
have at the beginning of the show. Good thing I had that daily email
from them or I'd never have known!
Also Tuesday is
the release of TTAC on DVD (VHS rental only) in the US/Canada. Review
from UPI.
It's the UK poster in the heading if you're wondering - very similar to
the French one. Bigger version over at UIP UK.
I updated the
dates somewhat - given the war, I think Mark's not gooing to London
anytime soon - so I'm moving the Ritchie project to the back burner.
Also looks solid for the UK date for TIJ according to someone who called
UIP. Seems a bit odd to me, as the DVD would probably be out in the
states by the time it opens there and the other European countries have
earlier dates as well.
