A Chorus Line

- Michael Bennett

Designer's Notes:

When Mark Fleischer, decided to do A Chorus Line he wanted to reproduce a show that had made a profound impact upon him as a young man, one that started him on the road to doing theatre. He drew on his personal memories of seeing this production on Broadway as a young man. The choreography was restaged from the original based on careful study of the records.  The sets were recreated, within budgetary constrictions, as closely as possible. My job was to recreate the lighting.   I never had an opportunity to see A Chorus Line on Broadway. The only video I was able to find was in black and white, clearly recorded with a camera which was incapable of capturing the subtlety of lighting, it was overwhelmed whenever there was a significant change in intensity, flaring to blinding white or fading abruptly to black before finding it’s balance and fading the picture back in.  I did the best I could. I think I was able to give Mark what he was looking for.
