Design Philosophy

My design philosophy is simple -- I strive to create an environment that assists the director and other artists involved in telling the story, as clearly and simply as possible, in a way that keeps the audience engaged.

 Short Professional Synopsis

Laura was born in Korea but has spent most of the rest of her life in various parts of Texas. She was infected by the technical theatre bug at the early age of 14 and has been living with that addiction ever since. After she received her BA from Austin College in Sherman, Texas, she had the privilege of working at some of the most prestigious theatres in Dallas, including The Dallas Theatre Center, The Shakespeare Festival of Dallas and the Addison Center Theatre. She soon realized that her addiction had matured to the next stage and required treatment of a different sort. So she went back to school, at The University of Texas in Austin, where she studied lighting and scenic design, receiving her MFA as proof of her folly. After spending a few years in Austin, where she designed scenery and lighting for Zachary Scott Theatre Center, Different Stages, and Hyde Park Theatre, among others, she returned to Dallas.  Most recently she has been working with The Dallas Opera, The Watertower Theatre, Plano Repertory Theatre as well as teaching at Collin County Community College and SMU Meadows School of the Arts.
