Smokey Tiago Flagler, III We got a grey kitten at 4 months old, and named him Smokey. We got him free from a lady who fixes stray animals. He was exceedingly scared of everything. It took days of coaxing to get him to come out from behind the furniture, where he would sit for hours. Finally he became less skittish and more playful. |

Now Smokes is a full-size cat, and is developing his talents.
OK really, he figured out pretty quick he would get attention if he jumped on the noisy white buttons. He goes ballistic with catnip and loves chasing cat toys and laser pointer lights. What a great pet! He's still fearful, which comes out when he gets in trouble. He'd rather obey than get in trouble. He comes when we call; he stopped digging in the plants after getting squirted with water, and didn't get on the table or counter after a few scoldings. He doesn't claw the furniture, and understands about 15 words. Actually, I understand about 5 different "meows": 'I'm hungry!', 'Play with me!', 'I'm tired', 'Hi', and 'You're stepping on me!'

Smokey loves chasing and eating geckos on the porch. Sometimes he makes us laugh so hard. His quirkiest habit is to reach underneath the bedroom door and twang the springy door stopper first thing in the morning. It's his way of getting us out of bed. |
