  Grandma and Grandpa Bosen Visit

My maternal grandparents came to visit us in December of 2006. They had flown into Georgia for my nephew's baby blessing; then drove down to south Florida to visit us.

They were good sports as I dragged them all over the place. They flew back to Utah--and said they had to recuperate after all that travel.

You wouldn't know it was Christmastime from the beautiful weather. The only thing that felt Christmassy were the neighborhood lights we went to see.

Christmas lights are different here than in Utah. More palm trees, fewer nativities. I think it's a funny Florida twist to see gators or dolphins pulling sleighs. The best house had a rotating sleigh and reindeer over the roof. The owners had rigged a long metal arm to circle the house. Pretty impressive!

We visited Mounts Botanical Gardens. We saw a wild iguana and lots of strange plants and beautiful flowers. Grandma said she didn't realize bananas grew like they did.

  Mmmm

We also took some photos in front of my favorite local murals. This one is on the side of 5-star furniture restoration in Tequesta. Dave and I drove by it every day when we were renting a condo. There are several specific local fish painted on it.

Grandpa presents the barefoot mailman, on the north wall of the Rinker cement factory in Tequesta.

Mailman delivered the mail between here and Lake Worth by walking on the beach, which was more travelable than the scrub, after south Florida was settled, but before the railroad.

Mural at the old Publix in Tequesta.

Mural on Juno Beach Fish House. Grandpa took my assignment to "Do something!" serious, and "took the shark by the tail". Kind of a tropical version of "take the bull by the horns", right? hmmm...

Then we went to...

...the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, aka: turtle hospital and donation pit. ('Loggerheads' are sea turtles. They have big heads, a common characteristic in this area.)

The nice environmentalists here take care of sea turtles with injuries, count the beach turtle nests, teach little kids, and sell pretty ocean stuff.

They had a little tank of baby sea turtles who had, somehow, not made it into the ocean. Each one had a white number painted on its back, and they were flipping around like those windup bath toys. Cute!

We also went out to eat, forced them to play board games, talked about family history, and had a good time. Thanks for coming!
