  Miscellaneous activities from 2006

Two of my piano students came with me to see the 5 Browns concert in Stuart, FL. (If you don't know, they are 5 piano-playing siblings, who also happen to be Mormon.) It was a fantastic performance, and the by the time we drove home we were really hyper!

Dana Mooneyhan (left) and Brittany Jacobs are really awesome girls who would play better if they didn't practice exactly like I did when I was their age!

Dave turned 29 on April 26. We had cake and presents. I made Dave a sign for his workshop (aka our tiny porch).

(It's funny because this sign replaces the one that our brother-in-law Sam gave Dave 2 Christmases ago. It was a joke present on rotting wood that said "Dave's Workshop - Chairs for sale" on it. Dave liked it, but it was an eyesore to me. So to compromise, I made him a replacement.)

Dave ran in the local annual Turtle Trot 5k. It's held in parks along the ocean. He did great, beating his goal time, and didn't get passed by too many fit, tan senior citizens. His wife, who encourages other people to run, supported him 100%. Good job, Dave!

Our local congregation held a family pioneer dance in the summertime. There were professional square dancers there to teach us. It was decorated with hay bales and wagon wheels, and we ate chili, and the men had a pie-baking contest. We dressed up right for the occasion.

There was a great turnout, and we had a splendid time, since we like to dance. Dave likes dancing, but only if it's not serious. I think real dancing is the best pastime, and it's too bad it's fading. It's the perfect marriage of sport and music, plus it's social.

I drove to Georgia at the beginning of November to see my brand new nephew, Wesley Eyring Robertson. My parents were also there, and we had a great time.

Funny story: Em and James were very good at swaddling their baby. We call their kids little "burritos" and "papoose". Well, one of the gruffer hospital nurses came in to Em's room, looked at their child, and asked "Who swaddled this baby?" James reluctantly admitted it was him. She said that he did great, and that their baby would never get out of THAT. Hee, hee; good for them!

Here Julie DeBoskey and her 2 kids, Jake and Drew, play the most adorable trio of Jingle Bells ever at the Christmas recital. We had a recital at my friend's piano store in the spring, and the Christmas one at one of the students homes.

I taught 8 students and 2 adults piano lessons during 2006. I drove to their homes, since we didn't own a piano. I really enjoy teaching, and it made my appreciate my talent more. (Thanks for all those lessons, Mom!!) The money helped purchased our first piano in January of 2007.
