Keeler Visitors My Aunt Gail and cousin Matt Keeler came to visit us in April 2006. We met them at the famous Ron Jon's surf shop near Cape Canaveral, FL. We stayed overnight and spent the next day at NASA.
Ron Jon's takes up an entire palace dedicated to surf equipment and beach clothing. We got some stuff, but my favorite thing about Ron Jon's was the surf shop next door. |

Next door has a giant circular aquarium. More like indoor ocean. I watched the fish and coral and sharks for, like, 30 minutes. I already knew the names of the fish. In fact, see the large silvery ones on the left? They're lookdowns, or moonfish. Dave and I caught and ate one once. Pretty tasty.

Cape Canaveral was really neat. Left is the assembly building.
The building is half a mile from the launch pad. The "crawler" vehicle that moves the Saturn rocket between the two places burns, get this, 150 gallons per mile. Talk about gas bills. |

Here's the rocket "garden". Dave knew all about the missiles, the histories, and ooed and awed over them. He's been a space junky since he was growing up in Houston. He wrote to NASA as a kid and asked for pictures, which we still have. No wonder he works with jet engines today. That's my little rocket scientist!

The rocket engines to get you to outer space. Wow. Cue the dramatic
music.
You think you can't wonder like a little kid anymore, and then you see this 4-story wonder of a machine.... |

I think this was supposed to be for kids to play in, so mentally, we
qualified, and hopped right in.
We also saw some neat recreation movies, ate overpriced food, saw the international space station assembly building, the astronaut Hall of Fame, and went home tired and happy. |

Matt works as an assistant chef, so he actually knew what he was doing with a knife. He made us a fried pineapple dish that was really scrumptious. Aunt Gail made us this unusual fruit salsa. Yummy.

Of course, between exciting adventures, we played games. Dave looks like he's losing.

We fooled around doing some shopping. Gail is my mom's younger sister whose husband died a few years ago. Joe, Gail's other son in the Marine reserves, couldn't come. She and Matt are cheery and easy going. In fact, they didn't have their route planned for certain; they just had an overall plan, and made decisions the day before. Gail served a mission in Tampa, so when they were done with us, they drove over there to see the area. |

Seems like we kept seeing strange cars. Like this custom paint job
Hummer, and the definately "custom" woody/taxi/station wagon, thing.

Aunt Gail and Matt and I went to Blowing Rocks Preserve on Jupiter
Island. It was really windy, but the water wasn't "blowing" through the
holes in the rocks because it was low tide. Too bad.

Matt was in his element, climbing around and exploring. He found some
"hamburger beans" seeds for my shell collection. We also saw lots of
live barnacles, man-o-war jelly fish, and live limpets, one-shelled
animals that stick to rocks like they're glued on. Cool. We enjoyed having our family here. Good excuse to see the sights, better excuse to spend time with family. |
