When we moved to Florida, Dave and I were immediately asked to help in
the church youth programs.
Dave has been helping the young men and scout troop, and I've been
involved with the young women and seminary. And if you know Mormons, and
teenagers, you know that means lots and LOTS of activities. I dropped scrapbooking
and updating my website for 2 years just to keep up.
Dave hasn't done a lot of woodworking. But boy do we have some good memories!
I tried to get a picture of everybody. Below are pics for about 1/10th of the youth activities. I can't write "an hundredth part" of the things we did; there is not enough room on this webpage. Unfortunately, I have almost no pictures of all the scout merit badge nights, Frisbee football, and weekend campouts. But Dave did them all, too. Here Mike Meade, Dave, and other boys wait for the next play at beach football night. |

Sister Harreveld taught the girls how to walk like professional models
at our ward fashion show. We had a runway, lots of cheering, and the
girls looked great. We also had special fashion appearances by Sister
Lybbert and her 2 kids in Moroccan dress.
That's hot. |

Sister Phillips, the 2006 camp leader, looks like she's ready for combat, but is just waiting for the end-of-hike water ambush. Don't be fooled by that tough exterior, nobody on the planet is nicer than Lilia!

A rare but important sighting of piggybacking Racoonus Loganalvanus. Also note the Penstealera Dalus Meadus. Both usually come out at night, and have wild tendencies to play frisbee football and be silly. They both have been captured by the most unusual specimen of all: Scoutmaster Regularus.

The early morning seminary students play "King" for scripture mastery,
fall 2006. Every student got a chance to compete at the top. They're
some pretty sharp kids. Seminary was a calling I hoped to avoid, like RS president or bishop's wife. But after some reassurance from the Lord, it became the funnest calling I've ever had. It took a lot of time, but I got to use my creativity. And my 12 kids brought some good humor and deep insight into the class...when they were awake. |
||||||
|
|
We did a lot of fun object lessons for seminary.
Just for one example: the armor of God, D&C 27. Dave helped me make the arrow-through-the-head gag, which, with the real body armor, and a lot of rubber bands (the fiery darts of the adversary) made a strong point and a funny activity. |
