SALEM'S
LOT
1979 ****
Full-Length Mini-Series - 184 mins.
The Movie - 111 mins.
A writer (David Soul) returns to his home town to write a book about a strange house. Meanwhile, an odd man (James Mason) has moved into the house, saying that his partner, a Mr. Barlow, is out on a buying trip. When people from the town begin . . . "dying" . . . suspicions are aroused. Stay away from the "sequel", A Return to Salem's Lot.
After re-reading the novel and watching both versions of the film again, I have decided that I prefer the shortened version to the full-length miniseries. The Movie, which was cut for international release, just cuts right to the point and tells the story in a way that's easier to sit through. Plus, it adds a little bit to the scene where Cully is pointing the shotgun at Larry.
Not Rated; contains violence.
