1999 **** 114 mins.
Natalie Portman and Susan Sarandon are at their absolute best in this touching film about the complicated relationship between a mother and a daughter. Based upon the not-so-wonderful novel by Mona Simpson (which, in fact, I despise), this great film is a worthy installment for the careers of its stars. The film provides nothing artistically, which is why it does not receive a perfect five star rating. However, this film is still a fantastic film that touches the heart deeply.
