Cujo

1983 **** 93 mins.

This is a truly frightening film adaptation of Stephen King's novel. The pacing is wonderful and the film relies less on gore than it does other aspects. The main thing about this film that really draws my attention is the original VHS cover (pictured above). Nowhere on the front or back does it say what "Cujo" actually is, whereas the new VHS and DVD covers make it blatantly obvious what it is. I'm not going to say what it is because I respect the original advertising campaign for this film. My reasoning behind not giving this film a higher rating, though, is that the little boy's incessant crying and screaming can get a bit annoying at times. I mean, I know that the kid is going to cry and scream in this situation, but this particular kid is just so annoying, it's sometimes hard to focus on the other more important elements in the story.
Rated R for language, sexual content, violence, and gore.
