SECRET WINDOW

2004 ***1/2 96 mins.

I remember when I read the novella Secret Window, Secret Garden, by Stephen King, I absolutely loved it. It would have to be one of my absolute favourite Stephen King stories. After seeing this film, I realize, though, that one reason the novella was so good was the novelty it had. The story is about a crazed man who claims a writer has stolen his story. When you are reading about it, it gives the story a much harder punch. This movie was very, very well done, though. The intentions behind it were great. Johnny Depp's performance was top-notch (could you ever hope to get anything less?). It's just that this story could not be presented to the screen as well as it's printed in a book.
Rated PG-13 for violence/terror, sexual content, and language.
