| REFLECTIONS ON STANDARD VII |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| All the standards thus far have dealt with the implementation of technology in the classroom. Standard VII, however, discusses keeping the technology operational and up to date so that it can be utilized in the classroom and planning the technology procedures and budgets that will be guide the technology program. The focus of this standard is not directly in the classroom, but more on a school-wide platform. It is within this standard that decisions are made that filter down and affect what technologies will be available, how it will be implemented, and how the technology will be maintained. I felt that Janover's article best exemplified this standard because it dealt with all the topics mentioned in the Standards title: Procedures, Policies, Planning, and Budgeting for Technology Environments. If a person is in a position where they must make decisions about alternate technologies that make sense economically, Janover's article on Thin Client Technology would be an excellent place to begin one's research. The artifacts selected for this standard were chosen because they reprensent school wide planning of maintenance and faculty productivity training. The trouble shooting workshop that I conducted was aimed at training teachers on basic trouble shooting techniques that could be utilized in order to keep classroom computers functional. The Eudora workshop was conducted at the request of my school's administration. The administration felt that getting our faculty to utilize our district email system was essential in teacher productivity as it provided a way to disseminate vital information within the school district and building. The results of the the Eudora workshop was a complete success as all 12 faculty members that were asked to attend began to use this resource on a consistent basis. |

| Artifact One for Standard VII: Trouble Shooting Handouts The Trouble Shooting Handsout artifact was selected because it best fulfilled TF - VII.A.6. As a member of the Technology Cadre in my school, I undertook the responsibility of receiving training on how to trouble shoot Mac computer systems and fix various problems within our school. As part of my responsibilities, I was also responsible for sorting the various work orders out, distribute them to the members of my trouble shooting task force, keep records of what trouble shooting was completed, and maintaining appropriate operating systems. In a school that supports technology, my responsibilities as the trouble shooting task force leader was essential to the continuation of our school's goal of integrating technology into the curriculum daily. If the teachers don't have technology that is functioning properly, they are likely to become frustrated and give up on integrating it into their lessons. Artifact Two for Standard VII: Eudora Syllabus During my first year of teaching, the technology coordinator in my school saw that I incorporated technology into my lessons regularly. For that reason, she approached me, and asked if I would be interested in joining our school's Technology Task Force. Because of my advanced knowledge of technology, I was asked to conduct faculty in-service training on how to use our email system, Eudora. As per administration, I met with approximately 12 faculty members weekly for a period of six- 30 minute workshops. Various topics regarding the components and features of the Eudora program were discussed, demonstrated, and reviewed so that all members in attendance would gain a sense of comfort and possibly improve teacher productivity. |
