Philosophy of Education
I believe that education is a growing process that begins at birth and continues until death.  In the beginning years, the child is taught basic knowledge and values and forms his/her own ideas about the world.  Each day will be a learning experience.  These experiences will help prepare the individual for what is ahead.  As the world develops, there will be much more information for the individual to learn.
I believe that school should be a place that instills in students, the desire to become life-long learners.  It should be a fun and engaging learning environment where students can explore, discover, and construct knowledge.  It is a social environment for children to get their first feel of the world.  It is a symbol for knowledge that will guide the student throughout life.  It will continually promote new information and knowledge.
I believe that all students can learn and that they learn best when placed in a nurturing environment.  It is necessary for them to engage in a variety of settings such as small group, whole group, and discovery settings that are designed to accommodate their diverse learning styles.  This environment will provide them with an active role in their learning and an opportunity to take ownership in their work.
I believe that in the ideal school, teachers, administrators, parents, and students will share in the decision-making process.  The teacher will not be the authority but the educator, and the students will want to learn instead of being forced to.  I believe that high expectations bring about high results.  Therefore, the teacher must educate, encourage, guide, and be supportive of the students.  The teacher must work with the individual and try to broaden his/her horizons.  The teacher must also incorporate technology in a way that fosters a deeper understanding of content knowledge and allows for new discoveries into the learning process.  Finally, I believe that the primary goal of a teacher is to foster educated, cultured, and well-rounded individuals who contribute to the integrity and welfare of society.
