REFLECTIONS ON
STANDARD I
Educational technology is a field that is expanding day by day.  New innovations surface daily that can benefit both educators and students around the world.  Although there are a plethora of possibilities for educators, many simply feel that they do not have adequate training with the technology in order to effectively incorporate it into their daily lessons.  With these thoughts in mind, Standard I is aimed at providing sufficient pre-service and professional development training opportunities so that teachers can  incorporate technology into their lesson plans at a comfortable level. Although some may be hesitant to try new things, it is our job to ease them into the various possiblities that technology offers.  By providing adequate training on how to use different applications, using technology to enhance lessons across the curriculum, and assessment components, teachers can receive the adequate training necessary to incorporate technology effectively.
Research conducted by Beckett, Marquez-Chisholm, and Wetzel show that by providing pre-service and mentor teachers sufficient technology training before they enter their classroom experiences effective and meaningful technology lessons can be created.  With additional professional development workshops and peer coaching, teachers can receive the necessary training that will allow them to integrate technology into their daily lessons.  Hopefully other universities
will incorporate these types of pre-service training to make sure that teachers are adequately trained.  It is unfortunate that in today's world, teaching candidates are not receiving the necessary training in technology.   One would think that a new teacher just out of college would be receiving training in technology integration as it has become such an important part of our society.

Artifact for Standard I:  Authoring Tools Powerpoint

This artifact was created and presented to a group of my peers.  The purpose of this presentation was to teach educators what authoring tools are and the benefits of them.  This artifact fulfills the requirements for Standard I because it demonstrates my ability to help other teachers identify technology resources and help them integrate these resources into their class.

Artifact for Standard I:  PowerPoint Demonstration

This artifact demonstartes how I have satisfied TF - I.B.  This PowerPoint was designed to demonstarte the different components of PowerPoint to a group of my  peers.  The beauty of this artifact is that it can also be used to teach students how to use the program.  This standard and artifacts that go along with it are essential in creating learning environments that both teachers and students can feel comfortable.  If teachers do not feel comfortable using the technology, they will just choose not to use it.  If the teachers are afraid to integrate the technology because they aren't comfortable, then the students will never receive the opportunities to incorporate this powerful too effectively.
