Overview:
Most of the major companies in the software industry recognize the growing opportunity of the e-government sector. Several of these companies have formed joint ventures to empower their software solutions to suit governmental departments� various needs. They have built strategies and alliances to earn the e-government business.
Discussion:
Many companies are trying to earn e-government business. Microsoft has introduced technology solutions to improve the way government conducts business. Bill Gates himself presented a vision for the Accenture eGovernment Accelerator, which is a development platform. This platform utilizes a range of robust .NET Enterprise Server platform technologies such as Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000 and SQL Server 2000. It was developed to provide governmental departments with the tools and services they need to deliver on the vision and benefits of interconnected government.
EzGov provides open standard solutions that are tailored to the needs of public sector customers. It serves local and national governments around the world. GovOne provides secure, reliable and integrated electronic tax calculation, payment and filing solutions for federal, state and local government agencies. Sierra Systems and USi have contracted with many local governmental departments in Washington State and in Canada. IT managers at government agencies worldwide welcomed moves by IBM and Oracle Corporation to seek federal approval of their respective applications which run on Linux. Siebel Systems Inc. and Lockheed Martin Corporation jointly pursue opportunities in the government sector with a strategic alliance that formalizes ongoing efforts between the two companies.
Finally, in a speech to Silicon Valley business and community leaders, Vice President Dick Cheney called on tech companies to bolster cyber security and hasten the adoption of broadband. Security is a driving factor in the selection of government vendors. Symantec introduced enterprise security strategy systems that secure cyberspace and are aimed at E-Government business.

as they recognize the opportunities and the business created by them. Recommendation:
Software companies must provide governmental IT managers with a complete solution that offers design, development, implementation, and maintenance in one package. Security measures must be maximized to assure the privacy of citizens and businesses when dealing with the government.
