le courtisane de mode

Rodmilla's Tea Gown

Costume Description
Dark green/blue brocade gown with velvet accents. Floor length. Probably one piece with movie ‘cheats.’ Empire waist. Deep ‘V’ neckline with velvet shawl collar. Insert of gathered green silk (?), squared. Laced with green cording. Tight oversleeves to wrist with trios of small intermittent ‘poofs' embellished with strips of green satin ribbon (see picture #2). Green-gold rope cording tied at waist with short tails. Worn with long rope necklace and shorter jeweled cross. Also worn with padded headdress covered with a gauzy lace veil.

This costume is also worn at Prince Henry's aborted wedding to Princess Isabella of Spain, but the lacy drape that covers the headdress was removed and replaced with a simple black chiffon veil. It also looks like there may be some type of black beading on the brim of the headdress. See pictures #8-9.

Historical Reference
Thanks to the cosprop.co.uk concept sketches, we know for certain that the vast majority of the costumes in Ever After were inspired by historical paintings, e.g., Danielle's Princess Gown, Danielle's Blue Library Gown, Jacqueline's Green Brocade Gown. We've been able to identify many of the paintings seen in these concept sketches, but since we don't have sketches for each costume, we have to speculate for some.

Picture #1, left is very similar in styling except for the high collar. The padded crescent headdress that Rodmilla wears were called balzos. For more information on this style, check out these awesome study pages [here] and [here].
