Danielle De Barbarac

Overview
Costumes for Danielle De Barbarac are separated by purpose: either the serviceable “Work Dress” when she acts as the servant Danielle, or the rich gowns when she adopts the persona of her late noble mother. The gowns worn when she is masquerading as nobility generally feature gauntlets tied to each other and at the sleeve cap of the dress, and a white semi-sheer ‘chemise.’ Both are usually movie cheats that are attached to the main dress and are not separate pieces. Main fabrics include brocade and velvet for the outer-gowns, and fine linen for the chemise.

Danielle’s costumes have empire waists, many times trimmed with braid or ribbon, and the attached skirts are box pleated into the back for more fullness. Bodices are tight fitting with no visible shaping and the skirts tend to be floor length at least, if not trained. Again, sleeves are generally one piece with movie cheats: attached gauntlets cover the undersleeve and cause the chemise to ‘poof’ where the oversleeves do not cover. Danielle’s accessories differ depending on the costume, but many times she wears a jewel encrusted snood to cover her hair (as befitting a woman of nobility).
