Rodmilla's Arrival Gown

Costume Description
Silver-gray velvet and brocade gown. Floor length, trained. Probably one piece with movie ‘cheats.’ Empire waist. Deep ‘V’ neckline with velvet shawl collar, embellished with white pearls. Insert of gathered white brocade (?), squared. Gauntlets of gray brocade tie at armscye and elbow. 'Chemise' poofs through bands of brocade detailing near wrist (see picture #11). Hanging sleeves attach at back of arm to hang to hips. Rodmilla has these longer sleeves draped over her arms in pictures #1-2 and #4-5, but you can see how the oversleeves are attached only to the back of the arm in picture #7-8. Trimmed with gray velvet (1"?). Overskirt of silver/gray brocade, also trimmed. Worn with long rope necklace and shorter jeweled cross as well as bejewled rings on fingers. Taupe-colored (velvet? suede? leather?) traveling gloves. Also, padded crescent-shaped headdress of white brocade (you can see the pattern on this pretty well - picture #10), trimmed with thin ribbon.

Historical Reference
Thanks to the cosprop.co.uk concept sketches, we know for certain that the vast majority of the costumes in Ever After were inspired by historical paintings, e.g., Danielle's Princess Gown, Danielle's Blue Library Gown, Jacqueline's Green Brocade Gown. We've been able to identify many of the paintings seen in these concept sketches, but since we don't have sketches for each costume, we have to speculate for some. A few historical references with similar elements to Rodmilla's Arrival Gown are shown below.

Picture #1, left and Picture #2, middle left show similar hanging sleeves, as well as Picture #3, middle right. Picture #4, right and Picture #5, second left show an example of slashed sleeves. The padded crescent headdress that Rodmilla wears were called balzos. For more information on this style, check out these awesome study pages [here] and [here].
