Un-invited plant alert!
I have had the worst time in my rocky yard lately. I can't walk barefoot because I could get stickers or cactus or rock bruises. I can see those threats and know to avoid them or wear shoes. Now there is a new insult in my yard.. the
I kept thinking I was being stung by something, but I couldn't find it. The pain was mild to strong and lasted 20 minutes to over an hour. No Benadryl helped, and it wouldn't wash off. Just picking up rocks, or walking across the grass in the yard was starting to get to me because as hard as I looked, there was no bug or any other visible reason for what was attacking me! Bob said I was imaging it because he never got attacked, but I was in pain every time I walked into the yard. Finally, Mutant Boy (what Bob affectionately nick-named our exterminator- because he talks like he stood under the spray of his poison a little too often) told me it had to be a Nettle (ok.. he called it "Bull Meadow" instead of "Bull Nettle"). I found many uses for Nettle. It is used in dandruff shampoo, as a tea, as an herbal diuretic for people with heart concerns, and (my personal favorite) to relieve pain in arthritic patients. You have probably heard of people using bee stings to induce an adreneline reaction to alleviate pain. Try rubbing this Nettle all over you and I guarantee you will forget your arthritic pain! (like hitting your hand with a hammer may make you forget that your knee hurt.) If you come to visit us, wear your Chaps!
