Brougham Area Newsletter October 2002 contined...

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY. Perth Street residents have won the 'Making a Difference in the Community' competition run by the Northern Echo. David Bellamy will be presnting them with a cheque for £500 to be used for the children in the area.

Perth Street has been transformed by all the residents hard work. Hopefully the rest of the area will be inspired to follow their example.
SECURITY LIGHTS. Arrangements have been put in place with 'Security in the Area' to provide and fix security lights for vulnerable people in the area. Contact Committee Members for details.

Congratulations to the association on its first birthday. FIRST AGM. On the 20th May 2003 the Association held its first AGM at the Rovers Quiot Club. The meeting was well attended by members old and new.

We had a Guest Speaker, Mr Bernard Willaims - (Director of Neighbourhood Services), who thanked us for inviting him to the meeting and congratulated us on our hard work this first year.

Tommy Connolly (Treasurer) gave a report on the Association accounts and painted a rosy picture for the future if we are careful with our spending.

Tom Steward (Secretary) gave a detailed report on what the association has achieved in the first year and what it is hoped to do in the coming year. He said that the Association has exceeded expectations in the first year and the coming year would be more of a consolidation. Copies of the report can be obtained from Tom Steward.

Muriel Boreland (Chair person) gave a short report to the meeting and thanked everyone for coming, and said the reason the Association is so strong is because of the residents coming to these meeting and supporting the committee. After the meeting we had a party and a karaoke to celebrate our first Birthday. Everyone had a very enjoyable evening.

THE NEW COMMITTEE. Chair person - Muriel Boreland; Secretary - Tom Steward; Treasurer - Tommy Connelly. The Sub Committee is Val, Jean, Janet, Joanne, Ben Sonja, John, Lisa, Carol and Hilda.
