Everett Street Alley - A Danger To Children!
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Jesmond Road Primary School
Percy Street
Hartlepool
TS26 0HR

Dear Editor,
Our class at Jesmond Road School wants to protest about the disgusting state of Everett Street back lane, which we have to walk along every day to reach our dining hall.

Did you Know that:
There is alot of graffiti and paint.
There is fly tipping.
There is a lot of litter for example: gum, cans, crisp packets, cigarettes and paper.
There is vandalism.

Another reason why we are writing to you is the dangers in the alley like: dog dirt, smashed glass bottles, needles, holes and uneven surfaces. The residents of Everett Street have put glass on the top of their walls and alarms on their garages to keep themselves safe. Please can you do something about it.

Yours Hopefully
Alexa Nixon and Jade Baker

Letters to the Editor continued...

Dear Editor,
Our class at Jesmond Road School would like to complain about the horrible mess in Everett Street back alley. They has been fly tipping but it has decreased a little bit. The fly tipping has been goiin on for a few yaers now. The main problem is that years 3,4,5 and 6 need to walk down there to get to the dinner hall everyday.

We would like to bring this matter to your attention and hope that you will come and see the state of it, for example.

* There is waste from bins where people have been through them before the bin men come to empty them.

* There is dog dirt but the owners don't pick up after them.

* There is Fly tipping e.g. mattresses, washing machines, television sets and stereo players.

Yours faithfully
Rachel and Chantelle

JESMOND ROAD CHILDREN HAVE THEIR SAY.

Our editorial team have been asking people in Key Stage Two how to improve the alley at the rear of Everett Street. you have already read about the state that it's in. These are some of the comments and suggestions on how to make it better.

Their was a strong feeling that people should be more responsible for their own actions. One disgruntled child, from Mrs Caley's class told us that, "We should track down who has made the mess and tell them to clean it up". Another unhappy Year 6 pupil added that, "There should be signs to stop people dropping litter and fines for those nasty litter bugs who ignore them".

However, not everyone favours people being responsible for their own behaviour. There are some who seem to think that clearing up the mess is someone else's job. A child in Mr Scott's class, "Every morning a cleaning man should come along and clear the street."

Why should some one have to clean everyone else's mess up? Everett Street is a mess. The people of Everett Street and others who use the area need to take more action in improving their own area rather that relying on other people.
