| September 2004 Special Days in September September 6- Labor Day September 27th- Colleen turns three! Tell Me What You Did Today When children come home at the end of the day, The question they're asked as they scurry to play is, "Tell me what you did today?" And the answer they give makes you sigh with dismay. "Nothing, I did nothing today!" Perhaps nothing means that I played with blocks, Or counted to ten, or sorted some rocks. Maybe I painted a picture of red and blue Or heard a story of a mouse that flew. Maybe I watched the gerbils eat today, Or went outside on the swings to play. Maybe today was the very first time That my scissors followed a very straight line. Maybe I lead a song from beginning to end, Or played with a special brand new friend. When you're in day care And your heart has wings, "Nothing" can mean so many things!! author unknown Grant The Quality Counts Daycare Grant bidders conference is coming up in September. Grants are due back on October 25. I plan to apply for a sturdy round table for arts and crafts as well as a corner storage cabinet for art supplies, and possibly a changing diaper station with storage. I am also considering a digital camera. I take many pictures of the children and with the new website, I could upload the pictures to our daycare album. I really need your help here, as I do not know all of the ins and outs of what to look for in the camera. I am thinking I have a dad out there that is knowledgeable in this area and am hoping you could find the camera that would fit the needs of the daycare. ALAN PLEASE HELP! LOL! If anyone has other big purchase, ideas in mind please offer me those suggestions. I will ask parents again this year to proof read the narrative portion of the grant and make changes where needed. You have all been a big help in the past and appreciate the enthusiasm you share with me in this opportunity to enhance the quality of care for your children. Trainings I completed First Aid Training Renewal in June. Daycare license was renewed in August and extended to after school care with Randy as my assistant. I have been in the business for three years! Scholastic Book Orders Scholastic Book Orders resume this month. Reminder the daycare receives bonus points for free books and materials with every dollar ordered. Book orders are due back on Friday, September 10th. Themed Program We will be starting our themed program this month. Please see attached newsletter. We will play around with a schedule as we adjust to the babys schedules and will accomplish what we can in the morning. My goal is to accomplish two to three areas a day, which would include circle time, math/science, art/craft, cooking, letter/shape enrichment, and/or music/movement. I will post the tentative calendar on the parent board at the front door. Some activities I have opted not to do on these days we will just review or finish projects that we have started. There are occasions where we will have free play/unstructured days based on the childrens mood. I guarantee the children are going to enjoy this program and the activities that I have planned from them. Our themes for September are: Ready, Set.Go! Family and Friends A-peel-ing Apples Our 5 Senses Reminder that I need a family picture for an art project. Pictures of family members where we can cut the faces out will do just fine. These will not be returned, as they will be used in an art project. I also need a white t-shirt for your child in an art project. Reminder that the themed fee is due the first Friday of the month or you may pay the fees in advance..whichever works best for you. We will eventually start a Library Day where the children can check out books, videos, and possibly even games that they may take home with them. In the beginning this will be a little unorganized, but I do have my sites on ordering a hanging library check out center. Thank you! Thank you goes out to Nikki for watching my girls for me so that I could attend the Annual Child Care Luncheon with WCCCC staff and their Board of Directors. I was invited to come to speak about the Quality Counts Care Child Care Grant. It was held at the Gardner Museum and catered by Quincy Steamboat, (YUM)! A thank you also goes out to all of the families for being flexible with their schedules so that I could attend this event. I am fortunate to have such wonderful and supportive families! Donations Thank you for the crayons that were donated to daycare. I was asked what else we could use for daycare; donations are always welcome and are always appreciated. Here is a list if you are out and find a good deal: Washable markers, Washable tempera paints Glue Paintbrushes Whiteboard markers or cleaner Quality construction paper or cardstock works well too Flour, salt, and jello, to replenish our playdoh supply I may post a wish list on the parent board at the front entrance, as supplies are low. Thank you so much for keeping the daycare in mind! Sign in/Sign Out Sheets We are going to try to use some weekly sign in and sign out sheets. These came with the Reach for the Stars program and could be useful since some children in the same families are coming and going at different times. You will need to sign each child in your family in and out. In addition, I am working on making a sign in/sign out board for the little ones to sign in and out themselves. This also came with the Reach for the Stars program and is something I thought the little ones would enjoy participating in when they arrive and depart through out the day. Reminder: I am closed on Labor Day, this is a paid holiday. Please check out the daycare website and sign the guest book so that I know you have visited: www.geocities.com/chelz3/colormehappydaycare.html |
