My days with the children had been so busy trying to plan for the theme curriculum and trying to keep up the demands of the babies schedules. I have been reading and researching the Creative Curriculum for Family Child Care Providers and over the next several months will be sharing information from this curriculum. Below is and overview that shares the direction and the goals for setting the stage for the curriculum. Thanks to prior grant funding with equipment and materials placed in our daycare program the transition to this curriculum will be smooth. The goals of the curriculum are to help the children: Learn about themselves and the world around them Feel good about themselves and become capable learners. Specific goals in developmental areas: Social: To help children feel secure and comfortable, trust their environment, make friends, and feel they are a part of the group. Emotional: To help children experience pride and self- confidence, develop independence and self-control, and have a positive attitude toward life. Cognitive: To help children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings. Physical: To help children increase their large and small muscle skills and feel confident about what their bodies can do. The set up, materials, and equipment I have available gives the children the opportunity to safely explore their surroundings and keep the children happy and engaged in their play. This curriculum will give me the opportunity to promote their learning and become capable, enthusiastic learners. This is accomplished by: Encouraging the children to try new things on their own. Praising their efforts. Allowing them to make their own mistakes and learn from them. Treating each child as an individual with his or hers own interest, abilities, and needs. Listening to what the children have to say. The overview and goals of the curriculum cover three areas: Why the activity is important. Setting the Stage Helping Children Learn The play areas addressed cover dramatic play, blocks, toys, art, sand and water, books, cooking, music and movement, and outdoor play. I will be sending articles home over the next several weeks that support the Creative Curriculum. Scholastic Book Orders Book orders are due on Friday, 11th. This is a great opportunity to pick items out to fill up those Easter baskets! Reminders Daycare will be closed for Easter break, Friday, March 25th- Monday, March 28th. |
