Special Days in April

                                                                                       April 20th- Austin turns 1

Thank You!
Thank you to everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers during the time of my grandmothers illness and passing.  She was a remarkable woman who we all loved dearly and we will hold her memories close to our hearts forever.

Trainings
I attended the Quality Infant and Toddler Training in March.

Summer Schedule
As the summer months are quickly approaching I am still looking at Mondays and Wednesdays for the days that all the children are scheduled to attend daycare.  Any other days needed for care will need prior approval and additional pay is required.

Accreditation
Thank you for all of your comments and encouragement with my consideration for the accreditation process.   Please keep in mind that the requirements that you are seeing are over and beyond DCFS licensing requirements.

Creative Curriculum
A lot if the goals of the creative curriculum I had already implemented into the daycare program.  Over the next several months I will pick one area of interest to elaborate on to give you more insight on what the children are learning as they workor play.    The block area and manipulatives is one of the children and my favorite areas.   The blocks are stored in the wooden shelving unit in the toy room all with separate totes and within their reach.  The smaller manipulative are stored in the wooden corner unit in the art area.  There are two sheets attached with more detailed information on the importance of block play, socially, emotionally, physically, etc.

List of blocks and manipulative I have available:

Wood blocks
Gears
Gear connectors
Tinker toys
Mega blocks, (two sets)
Legos
Block play people
Pattern cards and pattern blocks
Dominoes
Soft blocks for babies to chew
People builders
Pop Onz

Articles of Interest
I have taken the time to print out some interesting articles about the childrens play and developmental stages.  I will be sharing these articles with everyone and would like to use the same system we are with the accreditation sheets.  I will pass them around, after you have read it, please initial, (this helps me keep track on who I need to send it home with next), and then bring the article back so I can pass it on to another family.  Passing the articles around really saves on the cost of printer ink.

Bimontly Newsletters
After much consideration, I have decided to change the newsletters to bimonthly.

Car Seat Check
Not sure if your old or unused car seat is safe or what to do with it..
Adams County SAFE KIDS, Blessing Rieman College of Nursing, Quincy Public Schools, BFI, and West Central Child Care Connection are sponsoring a Car Seat Check on
April 22nd from 4-7 p.m. in front of Kriegers at the Quincy Mall.

Daycare Association
Just an update on the daycare association that I was a facilitator in starting in the fall of 2004.  We have been meeting for monthly meetings and discussing topics of interest within the group.  We have had some guest speakers ranging from:

Insurance Agent to discuss daycare insurance.

Accountant to discuss daycare tax write offs.

Investor to discuss investment options.

We had the owner of Learning Adventures come out and share some of her products.

In April we have a daycare licensing representative coming out to discuss The Creative Curriculum for Family Child Care.

In May we will have a few providers that attended the Heads Up Reading Class share information they learned that we can implement into our own daycare programs.

We also share information about our own programs and policies.  I have met and acquired friendships with some wonderful colleagues in the daycare profession with the same goal of providing quality daycare for your children..  We have been debating on a name for the association and then will order t-shirts and sweatshirts also.  If anyone has any suggestions for some names, please share.  A few suggestions we have had are:

Through a Childs Eyes Daycare Association

Cuddles to Crayons Daycare Association

We have also discussed starting a mentorship program for new providers coming into the business and getting more media attention for Providers Appreciation Day.

Scholastic Book Club Order
The Scholastic Book Orders are due back on Friday, April 22nd.

Closings
I will be closed on Wednesday, May 11th so I may attend an activity with Sailor at her school.
Holiday closing on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th.
