Special Days in June

June 17th- Sydnies Bday
June 20th-Fathers Day

History of Fathers Day
Fathers Day, 3rd Sunday in June. The idea for creating a day for children to honor their fathers began in Spokane, Washington. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Having been raised by her father, Henry Jackson Smart, after her mother died, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man. Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910

Air Conditioning
Please help me in keeping our electric bill down and close the door behind you at pick-ups and drop offs when the air conditioning is on.   This will be appreciated!  Thank you!

Grant
Wow!  We have been fortunate again this year.  We were awarded additional funding to use for a Little Tykes Wave Climber.  WCCCC also gave me a coat/cubby wall locker and a shelving unit that will work great for a block table and they  paid the total cost of the landscaping and surfacing project for the play area outside.
I would like to thank our friends Jim and Jean Feikert and their boys for all of their help in assisting Randy and I in completing the project outside. Jean runs a family daycare in her home also.  It is my commitment to them to assist her in writing a grant proposal for her daycare in hopes of being awarded money also.  The children each made an individual picture to the send to the Feikerts thanking them for their time and hard work.

Postcard Swap
There are 11 providers participating.  We have providers participating from South Dakota, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Illinois, Hawaii, Georgia, Tennessee, Canada, and Minnesota. I hope to extend this as an activity for the older children during the summer.

Sunscreen
It is getting to be that time of year that sunscreen needs to be applied to your children.   Again, it is the parents responsibility to apply sunscreen in the morning before arrival and I will apply it in the afternoon.  You are welcome to leave a bottle of sunscreen here for your children, but please NO colored sunscreen.  When applied inside it can stain the carpet.

Daycare Association
I will be meeting with Robin Ayers this month from WCCCC to work on getting a daycare association organized  in Quincy.  I have one fellow daycare provider who will be helping to get this organized and hopefully will find more providers interested once we send out a flyer.

Scholastic News
I will be sending home a packet from Scholastic News that I am considering using for next year as opposed to a packaged curriculum.    I want to concentrate more with the younger ones on introducing the letters.  This looks like a good program and it is one of their favorite characters..Clifford!  Please look over the materials and return them to me so I may pass them on to another family to view and give me some feedback on what you think.

Summer Schedule
Teachers children will be coming on Mondays and Wednesdays.

We welcome Megan back; she will be joining us on Tuesdays this summer.

Mealtimes:
Breakfast 8:00-8:30
Lunch 11:30-12:00
p.m. snack- 3:30-3:45
These are all give or take fifteen minutessometimes we get involved in an activity  and lose track of time!

On low enrollment days, we will go park hopping, run errands, enjoy the pool, maybe see a movie or eat out.  Any activities that require admission is the parents responsibility to pay for their child/ren, (Movies, Going Bonkers, Skating, etc).
It is very helpful if you let me know in advance when your child/ren will or will not be attending daycare as normally scheduled.  This helps me in planning these additional activities as well as with planning meals.

Reminders
Please check your folders once a week for art projects, newsletters, worksheets, book orders, etc.

Book Orders are due on Friday, June 11th.  This will be our last order until next fall.

Make sure you send the childrens daycare journals back daily.  If they are not sent back, you will not receive a daily entry of your child/rens day.

Please sign in and out daily.
