| October 2004 Special Days in October: October 4- Aryiel turns 8 October 25- My Birthday October 26- Kenady turns 10 October 31 - Halloween Trainings I attended the 10th Annual JWCC/WCCCC �Caring for Children� Mini Conference. Mice, Moose, and Seuss This workshop included brain, based learning strategies for teaching the way preschoolers learn best. A variety of ideas and brain-based teaching strategies that take advantage of the way the brain learns were discussed. The interactive, hands on teaching/learning strategy was reinforced. The workshop also incorporated a wide range of literature based, low cost, fun activities reinforcing basic preschool skills. Don�t Get Drawn in-Staying Out of Power Struggles with Children Practical strategies and language for diffusing and preventing power struggles while building relationships with children was taught. Teaching children to become partners in the process of learning to control their own behavior. The Ages and Stages Questionnaire-Social-Emotional The ASQ-SE screening is a simple way to add knowledge about your children�s social-emotional development. Fostering DAP into Classroom Routines Introduction to the Creative Curriculum and the foundation of Developmentally Appropriate, (DAP), was reviewed. Donations A thank you goes out for the markers that were donated to the daycare! Grant It is that time again to apply for funding for the Quality Counts Child Care Grant. I will be sending home rough drafts for parents to review and edit. Thank you! Lending Library We are now ready to begin our lending library. The children may check out books to take home to share with parents. In the beginning, I am not going to set a due back date; as books are returned they will be able to check out a new book to bring home. Attached is a form for parents to sign if you would like your child to participate in this. Please also note if you have a VCR or a DVD player. Thank You! Scholastic Book Orders Scholastic Book Orders are due back on Fri, Oct 8th. If you are ordering for a birthday or holiday please let me know. Remember the daycare receives bonus points for free learning materials with every order placed! Keep in mind also there is no shipping cost or tax! October Themes Pumpkins and Scarecrows Fall Harvest Red Hot, Fire Safety Brewing up Fun Letters: D, E, F Number 3 Theme Activity Fee I will be increasing the theme activity fee to $1.00 a day payable at the end of the week. This will go into effect the week of October 18th. Sign In/Sign Out Sheets We will be going back to our old sign in and sign out sheets. Every child will have their own sheet to accommodate for the different arrival and departure times. Sorry for any inconvenience! |
