The Schlaudecker Family

One of Neil's fifth cousins, Gregg Schlaudecker, has published a book titled "The Schlaudecker Clan through the Centuries". It was a wonderful book to read and is the basis for most of the information we know about the Schlaudeckers.

Mathias Schlaudecker is the earliest known Schlaudecker. He was born about 1700 in Kesseldorf, Germany, near the French border. It was Mathias' great grandson, Johann Jacob, son of Nicholaus, who was the first Schaludecker to immigrate to the United States, in 1837. He settled in the Erie, Pennsylvania area. In 1852, Johann's bother, John Ulrich, his wife and 5 children also immigrated to Erie, Pa, aboard the Lancashire.

The Louisiana Schlaudecker line leads back to Jacob Jr., who was born in Erie Pa., Dec 4, 1859. He married Mary Clark in New Orleans on Dec 4 1880.

During a recent visit, Uncle Herbie gave Neil a picture of Bucktown on the shores of Lake Pontchatrain, taken after the Hurricane of 1948.
