The Rodriguez Family

Through the years, there have only been a few different spellings of Rodriguez that I have found.  Here are some of the deviations:

Rodrigue, Rodriguez, Rodrigues

The earliest Rodriguez that I can trace is Cristobal.  Christobal (also spelled Christoval) left his homeland in the Canary Islands aboard the frigate La Santa Faz on February 17, 1779. Cristobal along with his wife, Maria and their three sons, Francisco, age 8, Antonio, age 5, and Salvador, one month old, sailed from the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in search of a new life in a new world.

The Spaniards had explored and begun colonizing the Canary Islands during the 1400's. By the late 1700's, the Spanish government had expanded into the Americas and was looking for recruits, bachelors and families, to help colonize that new world and maintain a Spanish presence.
