The Brou Family

The Brou's are one of our French lines. They settled very in St. Charles Parish, along the Côte des Allemands (the German Coast.)

The name Brou has also been spelled: Breaux and Broux

In the late 1700's and early 1800's the Brou family members lived very near to the DeGruy families in what is now St. Charles Parish, Louisiana.  In the mid-1920's Celine Huard, granddaughter of Phillomene Brou married Raoul deGruy, Jr. We do not know if Celine and Raoul knew that their ancestors had been neighbors a century before. One of my most valued sources for information on the Brou family is the book titled "St. Charles - Abstracts of the Civil Records of St. Charles Parish 1700 - 1803" by Glenn Conrad. Records on both the DeGruy and Brou families are prevalent throughout this book.

I have run across two other distant cousins who have also done research on members of the Brou family, Steve Fleming and Darlene Schnatz. Click on their names to follow the links to their pages.

Darlene's research covers the Becnel and Haydel families. Women from each of these two families married into the Brou family.
