The Johnson Family

The Johnson's came to this country from the Scandinavian area of Europe.

Neil's father, Harold C. Johnson, married Shirley Schlaudecker in New Orleans in the late 1940's. Harold had left his home in Centralia, Illinois to join the U.S. Navy in 1932. He had a long, distinguished naval career, serving in several major campaigns in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Harold C. was awarded the Silver Star "For distinguished service in the line of his profession as member of the crew of a Motor Torpedo Boat which engaged a Japanese submarine and landing barge off Kamimbo Bay, Guadalcanal on the night of December 9, 1942", signed by W.F. Halsey, Admiral, US Navy.

Harold's father, Harry was born in Nebraska. He worked for the railroad as a train conductor at the time of the 1920 census and was living with his wife and 6 children in Centralia, Il.

Silver Star

As you can see, Neil always had dreams of becoming an Admiral, himself.
