JOURNAL

Saturday 30 December

This one time I got on a bus and saw my old friend Val Fong. We had been friends in grade eight, but even then we had not had a lot to talk about. This was grade twelve and in the intervening years this situation had only worsened. As is polite in our society I started conversing with Val. I can't remember what either of this said, but I do remember that most of it was quite boring. We plodded on in this painful manner for about twenty minutes. I was sweating to think that we would have to continue in this way for the entire bus ride and so was she it seems. Mid-conversation Val picked up her earphones and started listening to music. I was stunned. I think at this stage most people would have been insulted, but I was impressed. Instead of sticking to society's standards and having an awful bus ride, she had the guts to acknowledge what both of us knew: we were having a boring conversation. She had the guts to change her situation, regardless of what was polite. I started listening to my walkman as well and the rest of the bus ride was spent sweetly.

Maybe the people who are hurting other people simply value the hurtees less than the people who their actions benefit. A breakthrough! And a good argument for equality.

Friday 29 December

I have found one of those computer games that is so good that you stop looking after your health so you can keep playing it. Go to http://www.dosgames.com/g_adv.php and scroll down to Hugo's adventures. I haven't played them all yet, but number three and two are extremely excellent. It's like this big, random, funny puzzle that you have to work out. It's in 16 colours and the sound is a collection of bleeps. The beauty of it is in the story, not in the electronics, and I like that. If you do start playing and you get to the maze in level two, be sure to email me and ask me for my map of it.

Stalker #948: they're getting smarter

Stalker #948 is a guy who got my number from the housemate wanted section of either the Courier Mail or QUT and has been SMSing me wanting my friendship ever since. I have mostly ignored him, although he has tricked me into replying a few times with such SMSes as "Just replying to your txt. I'm doing well, thanks. How are you?". Today he rang up enquiring about the house. I realised it was him after he decided that he actually couldn't afford the room after all, but would I like to meet up for coffee? This was after I gave him my home address. He was extremely persistent about this coffee idea as well, in fact so persistent that I had to hang up on him. I can't believe I gave this guy my address. He has outsmarted me on many an occasion. He is a formidable adversary of James Bond villain genius.

However, that makes me James Bond and I have a plan.

Snobby

I have this theory that these people who live in the same block of flats as I do* buy all of their music based on its price tag. They walk into the CD store, see what's on special and purchase that. There is no other explanation for their taste in music.

Saturday 9 December

My dear friends,

In a very short time I am going to cut off my home phone as I can no longer afford it. This will mean I won't really be contactable by email or really any other way than by letter or my mobile phone, which you'll have to call because I won't have any credit.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Friday 8 December

Yesterday morning I woke up to find about twenty flies in my kitchen. A colony of maggots that I missed on my rampage must have hatched! I felt like a proud mother, only the sort of proud mother who didn't know she was pregnant and later goes on to kill her babies. Twisted. Very much looking forward to the party tonight. I have spent the entire week trying to change my sleeping patterns so I don't pike. I have recharged my batteries. I have picked out my outfit. I think I'm ready.

The tape worm diet! Funny reading by someone who takes this idea very seriously.

Wednesday 6 December

I am currently looking for a new housemate to move in on or around December 14. If anyone knows anyone who needs a room could they please put me in contact with them? It's a large room, fully furnished or not depending on what you want, $117.50 a week, very excellent location on Petrie Terrace. It's right between QUT Kelvin Grove and QUT Gardens point, it's near Roma Street station and the Normanby bus stop, it's near the city, it's near some other stuff. Not just near, but walking distance to all of these. I don't care what sort of person this new housemate is (be they queer, international, circus performer) so long as they're nice and they don't deal drugs. There's internet access. I'll throw in a batch of freshly baked cookies. My mobile number is 0438 006 092 and my email address is legman.jump @ gmail.com

Friday 1 December

I have good friends. I have the kind of friends who take the time to try and make me happy even when I'm sitting in my room cranky and refusing to party. Much appreciated.

Friday 1 December

I frequently have really vivid and boring dreams about my every day life. This leads to all sorts of amusing circumstances where I think something has happened when really it hasn't. Last night I had a dream like this where I looked on QUT virtual and I had passed one of my subjects. How disappointing to realise the truth* in the harsh light of day.
