Bragg. Oct. 22nd, 1862." Additional Data: (1 September 2000) Information regarding Elie Ardoin -- Eli got sick right away, was discharged and missed out on the Vicksburg fun. However, my grandfather [grandfather of David White] told me that Eli's two month active experience in the army soured him on the war and he hid out from Confederate authorities for the rest of the war. An interesting possible confirmation of this family legend is that in the Official Records there is a report of a conscriptor in St Landry Parish telling of how he was attacked by anti-war people who resided in a heavily wooded portion of the parish including a "----- Ardoin." Could this have been Eli? I suspect it was. The following is a list of events with regards to Elie Ardoin: May 5, 1862 -- enlisted in St. Landry Parish by Lt. Octave Fontenot for the war and sent to Camp Moore for training. May 20, 1862 -- departed Camp Moore for Vicksburg. May 21, 1862 -- arrived in Vicksburg and posted to picket duty at Warrenton, MS. June 24, 1862 -- sent to General Hospital at Mississippi Springs just east of Raymond, MS near Jackson. July-September 1862 -- Absent from duty still in the hospital. October 22, 1862 -- Discharged at Vicksburg by [General] Braxton Bragg.
