Additional Information (27 September 2001): According to his Pension Application, he signed up "in Calcasieu Parish in the latter part of the year 1864." Fellow soldiers, William A. Dove, Pvt., Co. I., Howel Miers, Pvt., Co. F., of Kinder, La., A. M. Lindsey, Pvt., Co. F., of DeRidder, La., and A. (Alfred) L. Bailey, 28th Louisiana, also of DeRidder, La. attested to this by affidate. Silas was in the hospital in Natchitoches at the time of surrender. Silas married in 1864 to Annie Maddox, and there is no mention of the number of children born of this marriage. According to his Pension Application, she preceeded him in death. A very lengthy Application for Pension Benefits is on file at the Archives in Baton Rouge.

I., 29th (28th Thomas')
Civilian Data: (10 September 2000) Asbury Monroe Lindsey was born on 7 October 1841 in Arkansas. He married Ellen Lenore Bilbo at Barnes Creek, Louisiana on 9 December 1868. This marriage produced a daughter, Christa Pearly Lindsey who was born on 27 April 1892. She was married to the father, of the submitter -- Merritt Guyraud Garner in DeRidder, LA on 23 December 1919. Asbury Monroe Lindsey died at Dry Creek, Louisiana on 2 July 1929 and is buried in the Dry Creek Cemetery. His footstone reads "Co F, 28th La Inf, CSA. Ellen Lenore Bilbo is also buried at the Dry Creek Cemetery. One of my earliest memories, of the submitter, is of going to her funeral -- he was just barely five years old at the time. His other great grandfather, Charles Wesley Garner served in Co. H., 6th Arkansas Infantry Regiment. There is an application for Confederate Widow's pension benefits on file for Ellen Lenore Bilbo at the Archives in Baton Rouge. Information is supplied by the grandson to Asbury Monroe Lindsay -- James Gayle Garner.

Additional Information (27 September 2001) According to the Pension Application of Silas E. Cole, same company, they (A. M. Lindsay, Howell Miers and A. L. Bailey) served together and joined company in the later part of 1864 in Pineville.

Additional Information (18 February 2003): Smith McCullough is listed in the Natchitoches Federal Census of 1860 as having been born in Mississippi in 1844-1845. The 1860 Census shows him as being 16 years of age. He is listed as a farmer by trade. Little other information is available at this time. A check of the Confederate Pension Applications on file at the Archives in Baton Rouge indicate no application on file for him.

Additional Data: (11 September 2000) Contact was initially made with a Stephen G. Terrell, no relation, with regards to Erich Nystrom, Pvt., Co. F. In the original contact of 10 July 2000, it was pointed out the the submitter was in possession of a "tintype" photograph of Erich Nystrom. A check of the applications for Louisiana Confederate pensions reveal that no application appears to be on file at the Archives in Baton Rouge.
