Dove, William A., Pvt., Co. I., 28th (Thomas') La. Infty.
Additional Information (27 September 2001) William A. Dove, Jr. was
born in Louisiana about 1849. His parents were William A. Dove, Sr.
and Ana Woods. His father was from Indiana while his mother came from
Kentucky. Even though no muster roll records exist for William, he
claims to have served with the 28th Louisiana (Thomas's Brigade)
until the end of the war. At the war's end he was in the hospital in
Natchitoches and after he was well enough he made the trip to
Alexandria to obtain his pardon along with others. The Parole
Document of William Dove: No. 2247, Alexandria, La., July 27, 1865.
Private William Dove of "F" Company, 28th Regiment La Infantry, C. S.
A., residing in Calcasieu Parish, La, having been with the approval
of the proper authorities, paroled, is permitted to return to his
home, not to be disturbed by the United States Authorities, so long
as he observes his parole and the laws where he may reside. By order
of Major General E. R. S. Canby, U.S.A., Geo. L. Andrews, Brig. Gen.
and Provost Marshal General. His application for a Confederate
pension was denied on the basis that the parole document was not
signed by any Confederate officer and was only signed by two "yankee"
officers and their signatures were printed on the document. William
had sworn statements by two other soldiers whom he was to have served
with: B. T. Lacke and T. G. Crump. He also states serving with
another soldier, Louis Ford, who did served in Co. F. William
survived the war and lived until the age of 80. His death certificate
indicitates that he was a widower and lists his cause of death as
"senility". At the time of his death he was living in Clarence,
Louisiana. William is laid to rest in Old Pisgah Baptist Church
Cemetery - Hwy. 120 east of Belmont, LA. The proceeding information
was supplied by way of a copy of the Pension Application of William

Civilian Data: (6 September 2000) Marcelous Elmer Hasha was born
March 24, 1833 and is most likely the son of Marsla Hasha. He was a
rancher by trade. He was married to Mary Emaline Prather in 1857.
This marriage produced some fifteen children. He survived the war and
Marcelous purchased land north of Vinton, Louisiana in 1879 and 1890.
Marcelous died in 1900 in central Texas -- burial place is unknown.
Emaline appears in the 1900 Census in Mills County, Texas, listed
with three of her children -- John, Valary, and Ada. She died in Waco
in 1908. A search of the Applications for Confederate Pensions for
either Marcelous or his widow, Mary Emaline Prather comes up negative
in Louisiana and Texas. Should you wish to view the biography of
Marcelous Elmer Hasha in its entirety, you may do so by going to our
Veterans
