Civilian Data: (11 September 2000) Simeon Thomas (S.T.) Neal may in fact have been known as Samuel Neil when he served in the 28th Thomas' Louisiana Infantry Regiment. He was born in Caldwell Parish in 1845. He was married, no mention of his wife's name is given. He resided in Castor, Bienville Parish and there he reared his family. His grandson, Cecil Campbell, uncle to the submitter) always referred to Samuel as "Grandpa Sim". He is laid to rest next to his wife in the Old Castor Cemetery, Bienville Parish. The burial site is marked by C. S. A. headstone with the inscription as a member of Co. A., 28th La. His daughter, Elletta Neal, the grandmother of the submitter, passed down a C. S. A. identification pin, formerly owned by Samuel Neil (aka S. T. Neal?) which shows him to be a member of Co. A., 28th Volunteer La Infantry. According to a search of the pension application index, an application for a Confederate pension is on file at the Archives in Baton Rouge in the name of Neal, S. T.
