Additional Information (9 December 2001): Michael Redmann, aka, Michael Rodney, was about 17 years of age when he was forced into the Confederacy -- information from family members states the word "forced" around March 1862 when her first appeared on the roll of Company D. He assumed the name of Michael Rodney in order to obtain an early release from Camp Morton. He then settled in the Danville area of Indiana, which was then called Center Township, in Hendricks County. This is but one train stop west of Camp Morton. As of this writing, no date of death or burial site has been located with regards to Michael Redmann/Rodney.

On Roll not dated of Prisoners of War at Camp Morton, Ind., who desire taking the Oath of Allegiance. Remarks: Was Conscripted at Vicksburg, Miss., May 15, 1863, desires to take the Oath, return to New Orleans, a loyal citizen. Respt. recommended. Name appears as signature to an Oath of Allegiance to the U. S., subscribed and sworn to at Camp Morton, Ind., Jan. 3, 1865. Res. New Orleans, La., complexion light, hair light, eyes gray, height 5 ft. 5 in. Remarks: Captured at Vicksburg, Miss., July 4, 1863. Refused to be paroled and asked to take the Oath of Allegiance to the U. S. and be released.

Additional Information (1 March 2002): Pvt., Co. D., 28th (Thomas') La. Infty. Also served in 1st La. Heavy Artillery at Vicksburg. (1st Artillery was made up of French speaking troops) Lastie was conscripted to replinish losses. Lastie joined 28th Thomas' at Pineville in 1864 after serving with 1st Heavy Artillery. Born: September 25, 1837. Married twice: 1st wife pregnant when he returned home -- not his. Threw her out. Remarried three years later. Died: July 28, 1929. Buried at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church Cemetery, Chataignier, La. Grave is near right center in back part across from his Father, Solastie Rozat, Grandson to 1st Rosa in Louisiana...Joseph who came from Canada in 1870 -- Italian descent.
