Questionnaire

Could I Have an Eating Disorder

Eating Disorders (bulimia and anorexia nervosa) affect the individual in various ways. Typically, they follow a progressive course from mind to serious symptoms.

These questions were designed to help you identify a problem with eating. This problem may be in the beginning stages; it may have settled already in a set pattern, or it may be quite advanced. We developed these questions out of the actual situations we have seen over the years in our clinical and educational work with eating disorders.

From this questionnaire, you may be able to place yourself somewhere in this progressive course. Symptoms ("yes" answers) in the EARLY stage indicate problems which many individuals-young girls in particular-go through. At this stage it is difficult to tell who will progress into a true eating disorder. Symptoms in the MIDDLE and LATE stages indicate that a problem has already developed and that treatment is recommended.

If you recognize through the questionnaire that your eating is becoming a problem, you may want to speak with a counselor/therapist. You can learn more about eating disorders, early intervention and prevention, as well as about the steps of treatment.
