Ineffective Dieting

Ineffectiveness of various dieting behaviors

Dieting does not work. Weight loss diets are marketed on a premises that women can achieve a cultural ideal (body shape) that is physically impossible for most women to achieve.

Bingeing/vomiting: Solves short-term problem of unwanted food, but doesnot solve the growing hunger for food. This behavior takes up time and money. It is potentially dangerous.

Starvation: Increases preoccupation with food. It takes its toll physically and psychologically.

Laxatives: Potentially dangerous and does not prevent absorption of calories. Weight loss is in the form of water, not fat.

Diuretics: No effect on calories. Weight loss is in the form of water, not fat.
