"I am number One."
.." Number 1 ranked NM Shane Matthews emerged as the Krysoft Financial Software sponsored 2002 National Champion after drawing his last two games against NM Wheeler and Mark Smith, in Rounds 8 and 9 respectively to end with 6.5 points. NM Jomo Pitterson was second with 6 points after he also drew his last two games with NM Duane Rowe and NM Robert Wheeler, respectively.
The fight for third place and a place on the Olympiad Team was very tough indeed as Five players were tied for 3rd to 7th place with 5.5 Points.
