NATIONAL CHAMPS 2002 STARTS August 3,2002
------------------------------------------------------------

"Chess is the purest form war. Of course, like any war you fight till their is only one man left standing. And that's how you know who won.."
---- Nm Mark Holness.

2002 NATIONAL CHAMPS

The final Selection for the KRYSOFT Financial Software sponsored 2002 National Championships is comprised of  18 of the strongest players in Jamaica.

The list of players includes 6 National Masters and  2 Fide Masters.

The Tournament gets underway  at the Norman Manley Law School on August 3,  in the format of a 9 round Swiss with a the official Fide First Time control of  40/75 with and additional 30 seconds per move and  then a Second Time Control of Game in 15 minutes plus an additional 30 seconds being added for each move. The Tournament will be a Fide Rated Event, which will be run alongside the National Women’s Championships and the President’s Invitational Chess Tourney.

ROUND 1 PAIRINGS For Men’s National Champs

Round One will feature a clash on Board One, between two National Masters with contrasting  styles when defensive National Master Mark Holness plays with the White Pieces against Jamaica’s Number One Player, the aggressive NM Shane Matthews.

On board two, NM Jomo Pitterson will face off against  Fide Master Grantel Gibbs in what could  very well be the Match of the round.

On Board Three, NM Duane Rowe will be seeking revenge against Equitable Brown who had earlier beaten him in The 2002 Blitz Quarter Finals.

Board 4 should prove to be an exciting match between two aggressive Players when NM Geoffrey Byfield  takes on Eton Chin who has been absent from the chess scene for some time.

The other games will include an interesting matchup between two brothers on Board 6, when Former National Champion Ryan Palmer takes on his younger brother, former Amateur Open Kingpin, Adrian Palmer.

ON board 5,  Malaku Lorne will play in his first National Champs against many time National Champion, NM Robert  Wheeler, while Mario Marshall will play Markland Douglas on board 8.

Middlesex Vp Peter Myers will aim to start his quest for an NM Title on a high note when he plays Bertram Scott on board 9.
