SMERI finishes translation of treatise on 'beatific vision' [liqa' Allah]

Posted: November 10, 2007

SMERI's Senior Researcher and Translator finished yesterday the translation into English of Risalah Liqa' Allah [Treatise on Beatific Vision] (Tehran, 1382 AHS (2003)), 148 pages, written by the late 'Allamah Hasan Mustafawi.

This translation project is the subject of a three-month contract between our translation and the Tehran-based 'Allamah Mustafawi Works Publication Center signed last August.

The treatise deals with the different stages of mystical wayfaring [sayr wa suluk] until the station of beatific vision or 'meeting with Allah' [liqa' Allah] is attained.

The late 'Allamah Hasan Mustafawi was a great mystic, hadith scholar [muhaddith], historian, and exegete of the Qur'an [mufassir] with more than 70 books to his credit on various subjects. His magnum opus, a commentary of the Qur'an, consists of 16 volumes. He has written a book on the scientific method of translating and interpreting the Holy Qur'an. In addition, his 14-volume etymological examination of the words used in the Qur'an is unique.

'Allamah Mustafawi Works Publication Center has branches in London, UK and Cairo, Egypt, and a liaison office in Dubai, UAE.

Our translator is currently translating a 500-page commentary on Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq's ('a) 'Lantern of the Path' [Sharh Misbah al-Shari'ah] by the same author.

SMERI completes Filipino translation of DILP fact sheets

Posted: November 1, 2007

Intended for "In a Nutshell", the Ahlul Bayt Digital Islamic Library Project (DILP) web site’s special interface for fact sheets in different languages, the Writing and Translation Department (under the Research Bureau) of Shajaratun Muntazirah Educational and Research Institute (SMERI) finished yesterday the translation of fact sheet on self-admiration (‘ujb).

With the translation of this remaining fact sheet, Filipino language becomes the first language among the 24 languages at DILP’s “In a Nutshell” to have completed the translation of all 30 existing fact sheets. The next leading language is Swahili with 15 translated fact sheets followed by German and Spanish with 13 and 12 translated fact sheets respectively.

Among these fact sheets in Filipino, the one about hijab is downloaded most from our web site, followed by those about what non-Muslims say about Islam and the 12 successors of the Prophet (s) respectively.

Meanwhile, the fact sheet about the incumbency of following the Prophet’s family has the highest approval rating  (4 counts of ‘outstanding’) followed by the ones about non-Muslims’ view about Islam (with 2 counts of ‘outstanding’, 1 ‘very high’ and 1 ‘high’) and the manner of performing prayer (with 2 counts of ‘outstanding’).

Early last month, SMERI has also embarked on the translation of these fact sheets into Cebuano, and two fact sheets (what non-Muslims say about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (s)) are already translated and available online at our web site.

According to our Cebuano Translation Team, one or two more fact sheets will be translated this month and be available online, insha’ Allah.

In order to expedite the translation of 30 fact sheets presently available in DILP web site, SMERI is inviting other voluntary Cebuano translators, both inside and outside the country, to join the team.

Ideally, in addition to our two translators constituting the Cebuano translation team, eight more translators are needed to be divided into five groups of two (translator and editor) to be assigned to the five sets of fact sheets, viz. Beliefs, Laws and Practices, Personalities, Merits of the Soul, and Diseases of the Soul.

Anyone who wants to take part in these voluntary efforts may email us at [email protected]

Cebuano is the second largest spoken language in the Philippines and is the dominant language in Visayas and Mindanao, the central and southern main islands of this archipelagic country.

Download and print these fact sheets and distribute them!
