SM Educational and Research Institute (SMERI) is a
non-profit private institution aiming to cater for the academic,
intellectual and religious training needs of the Muslims in the
Philippines,
the followers of the
Ahl al-Bayt (’a) among them in particular.
SMERI had been only a private-run library
under a different name since 1991, offering inside and outside-reading
services to the public, as well as giving free copies of books to
deserving individuals and groups.
Since then, it has been receiving donations
(books and other resources) from various academic and cultural
institutions around the world.
On the occasion of the birth anniversary of
the Awaited and Guided One from the Progeny of Prophet Muhammad (s), Hadrat
Imam Muhammad al-Muntazar al-Mahdi ibn Hasan al-'Askari (may Allah hasten his glorious advent)
in 2004,
however, the people behind this library has formally named it "SM Educational
and Research Institute (SMERI)" as they decided to expand its services in
the fields of education, research and outreach programs.
Managed by a group of volunteers
as full-time or part-time members of the staff, SMERI accepts anyone who is
willing to take part in the services rendered by the Institute and may apply
for part-time
staff membership.
