A post office in the rear Of a small country store The whole thing was run By a man named E.M. Moore. You could patch a flat in the rear In front you could buy gas. Mostly it was credit We had very little cash. He kept a roaring fire in the store In the winter time. You could buy a Pepsi and a Candy bar, both were just a dime. The bread was brought in daily And the mail by the same man. The store had no fresh meat But you could buy almost anything in a can. - E.M. was the postmaster ~ Denton, located in the east Arkansas hills. He was always sympathetic If we couldnt pay our bills. Living on a ranch There wasnt much to do. So we all meet at the store on Saturday Afternoon to spend an hour or two. That was in nineteen forty nine Its all changed today. You wouldnt know it ever existed, If you drove out that way. Each time I go for a visit I always wish that I could stay. But even if we could move back there would Be no post office and no general store. And E.M. would not be The postmaster any more.
