March 16, 2001 First thing's first, there is a new wallpaper on this page, check it out after reading my awful attempt at social commentary. Zach's column is updated, with his picks for the oscars, an interesting read, and you can always disagree with the picks, give it a look. I lead in with a challenge of sorts, see if you can identify this line- "try to make your mark on society, using all the tricks that you used on me." Now, who can tell me what song that is from and what band/artist performs that song? I am in some form or another back, I've been too exhausted most nights to update "dis bitch" but I have resolved to start updating semi regularly. Soon I will undertake the massive duty that is learning GoLive, the program I build this page with, so look for noticeable changes and improvements in the next month or two(hopefully). now, on to the goodies, or lack thereof as it were. One reason I haven't updated recently is that I don't have anything driving me to think lately. It seems at times as if I have sunken into a role as a drone, merely going to work and coming home, going to work and coming home, though it's not really that bad, I tend to exaggerate in my own head the severity of my situation. It has gotten me to think about that concept a little bit. Do you realize how many people are literally drones? The highways are full of cars every morning on the way to work like so many lemmings heading towards a cliff, and while a good many of them likely have a family they are trying to support, or maybe a significant other of some form, not everybody is so lucky. It strikes me as inescapably sad that there is a large portion of humanity that merely exists, they go to work and come home, maybe watching the news and survivor or whatever NBC tells them is "must see" then they go to bed to go to work the next day. On the weekends they sleep in on saturday, maybe go to a movie or visit their family, or maybe nothing but watch a little TV or fix some stuff up around the house. IF they manage to steal any time for themselves during the week it is on the weekend- IF. Would you like to work 5 days a week and only have 2 days a week total to even have an hour to seek recreation, especially if you can't share that time with anyone? This is obviously the depressingly solitary existence I am doomed to live my days out in, but it's not that. I work in the hell that is retail right now, and 50% of all people are just angry or generally unhappy. You can tell, nobody tries to hide it, but they don't think anybody will notice that they're buying office supplies on their lunch break or their time off and are going to go home to an empty home or apartment where there is no face waiting to greet them, let along a smiling one. Success seems to be measured only in dollars and treated only as completion. A lot of people are really well paid to do the exact antithesis of what would make them happy, but since money still equals success in the opinion of the masses altogether too often, they consider themselves to be doing well. Given the option of either being merely comfortable(never having to worry actively about money) and enjoying your life's state of being wealthy with lots of nice things in a job you hate- why the fuck would you choose money over happiness? Even Visa's commercials admit money can't buy happiness. If you have no option, if your choice has been stripped of you, then fight and claw yourself to the top of the pile, regain your freedom to determine your own station in life. There are always going to be drones, in every society from ants and bees all the way up to and including we humans- but that doesn't mean it has to be you. That was my lovely self aggrandizing social commentary that skipped all over the map content wise and will be ripped as entirely off base, but fuck it, I don't see you giving me something to post now do I? Check out the new wallpaper below, I can't decide if I like it or not, but if you like it, who cares if I do. -adiosa
