                          Building Diary

February 2003 - Many folks say that one of the major tests in a marriage is the building of a new house.

Well, we've been married since 1990 and are about to put that theory to the test.

We are building a 3400+ square foot home using a plan we drew-up on one of those freebie auto-cad programs.

Since we have family and friends across the country, we decided to prepare this little website with some notes and photos to help everyone follow the progress of this project.
Follow the progress....
Getting Started
The Foundation
Framing the Beast - only 18 weeks!
House Guts - Electrical & Plumbing
Installing Drywall
Wrapping & Scratching
Cabinets
Stucco
Paint & Lights
August 2003 - Sharon's little sister and nephew, Margaret and Nick Rinker, came out from Florida for a visit.  Margaret was a huge help....she even packed ALL of Sharon's elephants and the breakables.  She was put to work at the house.  She is very handy with a paintbrush and a hammer.  Just DON'T ask her about the Soy Sauce Incident!
Taking a break from packing and painting to visit The Mouse at Disneyland.
A Little Tile Work
Plumbing & Interior Finishing - under construction
Exterior Finishing - under construction
Moving Day - 8/1/04
It is September 2003 - and we are still speaking and neither one has thrown any large objects at the other.  Ron is getting anxious about our mid-November move in date.....but so far, so good.

It is November 20th - and we are not moving into the house.  We had to pack up and move out of the old house because the new owners wanted to do some remodeling before moving in.....so, we are now in a VIP apartment.  We have 2 chairs and 3 forks.  Visitors should bring a chair....or food

November 2003 - Our cabinets have been delivered. Bill and his crew from Valley Cabinet did a wonderful job!  I can't wait until we find the darn finish carpenter to get the doors installed, so that we can see the completed job.  The excitement of a new home was tempered by the loss of Ron's mother.

Merry Christmas - we have decided that we should have used better wine at the ground breaking - the general contractor had a health scare, the tile guy is out with pneumonia, finish carpenter is MIA, and it is raining on Christmas.  2004 has to be an improvement over 2003.
Final Touches - under construction
While in New Zealand, we asked a famous witch doctor to look into our future........
Translation - "You think you are actually going to move in to the house in mid-November - I laugh at you, laugh, I say!"
January 2004 - We took a quick trip to Indianapolis to attend the christening of Ron's nephew, Jack Roberts Kreiner.  Ron is the godfather and Darin's sister, Jennea, is the godmother.

January 29, 2004 - we are making progress.  We have 90% of the interior tile floors done, 75% of the other tile work done, plumbers should come this week, wood floor is getting laid and the lights have all been hung.   Jim Kight is trying to get us in by the end of February.  We'll keep the fingers crossed!

February 10, 2004 - Ron has set a move in date....March 15th.  Fingers crossed!  John Nash and Jimmy Kight are working really hard to get the tile finished.......lots of tile inside and out.....

March 2004 - we are going to move in mid-month.  Still have rooms that need finishing and lots of exterior tile but we can live with a little mess for a while.  Yeah!  Managed to survive the whole process of building a home and are still speaking to each other, we don't hate our general contractor and most of the subs don't flip us the bird when we pass on the street.  I consider that a success!
