Mr. Eric Sparrgrove, is new to Roosevelt Alternative School this year.  He is one of our Language Arts teachers specializing in writing skills instruction.  He is a veteran teacher here in Mission CISD who has worked at Mission Jr. High and the High School as a Language Arts teacher.  Mr. Sparrgrove has been in the teaching field almost 20 years.

Mr. Ramon Rodriguez, our counselor, conducts initial interviews/screenings as soon as possible after a new student's intake/orientation.  During this session reasons for the placement, personal and family issues, legal issues, academic issues, and alcohol/other drug involvement and gang issues are discussed.  At times it becomes necessary to refer a student and/family to community resource's.  Individual counseling and family counseling is routinely conducted as need.
Mr. Rodriguez states, "We at RAS have implemented the use of a 'transition plan'.  A comprehensive plan that includes techniques, strategies and interventions that have been successful are included.  Computerized forms that show the academic work the student has done is also included.  Every professional staff member is consulted to formulate the plan.  I then meet with the home campus counselor and/or assistant principal to facilitate a successful transition of the student."

Mrs. Anabel Rios, is our other Language Arts teacher.  She specializes in reading curriculum and teaches our student how to improve their reading skills. She has taught for many years and have and excellent relationship with our students.  Mrs. Rios is also in charge of our Accelerated Reader Program.  In Accelerated Reader the students read from books of their choice ten minutes each class period and is tested on what they have read.

Mr. Miguel Fraire, is our PE coach.  He brings to RAS 23 years of experience; Coach Fraire has worked as a junior high and high school coach.  Coach Fraire says; "I've been in the same place as many or our students.  I know how important it is to have someone to look up to.  It is very important that our students have a positive roll model and it is important that we provide that roll model."  In his instructions he stresses the concepts of healthy competition, sportsmanship, and appropriate behavior.
