Roosevelt Alternative School is a member of Mission Consolidated Independent School District. We are a short term placement campus which focuses on behavior management, social skills training, life skills, core curriculum, and TEKS preparation. Students are placed in our care when they have difficulties on their home campus or if the child is in need of teen parenting skills. We serve both elementary and secondary students. We have serviced students placed in the third grade to the twelfth grade from eleven campuses, two junior highs, a ninth grade campus, and a high school. Roosevelt Alternative School has two programs under it's umbrella, the Alternative Education Program (AEP) branch and the Teen Parenting Assistance Program (TPAP) branch. The AEP is designed for students who have demonstrated difficulties following district and/or home campus rules and policies. Students are assigned to the AEP for a short time, approximately 35 days. Of course, this is dependent upon them completing satisfactorily the prescribed AEP program. The TPAP branch is designed for female students who are expectant mothers or have just had a child. Placement at TPAP is a longer placement than that at the AEP. MISSION STATEMENT The Roosevelt Alternative School's mission is to directly affect each and every student in the area of student behaviors, skills, and citizenship so that they will exit our alternative settings and re-enter the regular curriculum as productive, well-adjusted individuals who can be successful in a global economy. To ensure that our students will obtain a high school diploma, possible higher education, and lifetime skills, we will provide multilevel core courses, transportation and day care (for teen parents), plus individual and group counseling. PHILOSOPHY We at Roosevelt Alternative School believe in the dignity of a person and that every person is worthy of respect. ORIENTATION PURPOSE When a student first enters Roosevelt Alternative School they, along with their parents, are required to go through orientation. It is during orientation that the AEP program, student responsibilities, parent responsibilities, and staff responsibilities are explained. The orientation begins with the following statement: The purpose of this orientation is to allow you, the student to become familiar with our expectations of you while you are at this school. Your assignment here is a result of a violation of law or the Mission CISD Student Code of Conduct. You must be willing to accept responsibility for those actions that brought you here. You are assigned to the Roosevelt Alternative School for the number of days necessary to successfully complete the Behavior Management Plan; normally thirty-five (35) days. The second (2nd) or subsequent assignment to this campus in the same year, will result in a forty-five (45) day assignment. The length of your assignment at this campus is totally dependent on your successful completion of the Behavior Management Plan. The assignment may be extended if you fail to acquire the points necessary to exit the program.
