First Club Activity At Mission Ridge
QVSC's Nancy Greene Ski League and Snowboard Program started up today at Mission Ridge and
the turnout was fantastic. Most athletes got to meet their coach for the
year and they were off and skiing at Mission Ridge Winter Park. It was
great for the upper levels to be able to ski a run from the top - thanks to the
staff at Mission Ridge for having a run ready for our startup day. Also, a
big thank you to the parents and older athletes who volunteered their time to
help out with the younger athletes.
| December 28 - 29, 2001 Early Season GS Training At Asessippi Several members of the Alpine Race team traveled to Asessippi Ski Area in Manitoba to get in some extra Giant Slalom training prior to the first Sask Cup GS races. Kirk and Cory Cochrane provided the coaching for this camp. Overnight was spent in the wonderful ski lodge right on the hill. Asessippi Ski Area provides an excellent training facility for GS training and they are very cooperative and helpful to race teams. QVSC Attends Western Kickoff GS Races
Twenty-two athletes from QVSC's Alpine Race and Development Teams ventured
to Panorama, B.C. and took part in the two day GS training and two day GS racing
opportunity provided by Sask Alpine. Approximately 150 competitors from
Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia compete in these races so our
athletes get excellent competition very early in the season.
Teams are assigned a training lane the first two days and QVSC was fortunate to
be paired with the local club, Windemere Valley. Cory Cochrane, John
McNally and Kirk Cochrane provided the coaching for this event.
Brady Achtymichuk led the way for QVSC in the competition winning GOLD
in his category each day. Awards are
presented for both the overall competitors and the Saskatchewan only
competitors. Following are the medal and ribbon recipients from QVSC:
