QVSC Alpine Race Team Dominant At Sask Cup Finale
Members of the QVSC Alpine Race Team came through with some great
results at the Sask Cup Race Series final two slalom races held at Timber Ridge
Ski Area near Big River. At these races, hosted by the Prince Albert Ski
Team, our athletes picked up eight gold medals as well as two overall
awards. Yolandi Lombard, Kara Delaney and Brady Achtymichuk led
the way picking up two gold medals each, while Rachelle Hollinger and Darsey
Godwin each won an overall award. All members of the QVSC team gave it
their all to help their club stay atop the club standing. After the races
on Friday a supper was held at a community centre near the ski hill. The
awards for that days racing were presented there and the awards for Saturday's
races were presented at that evenings banquet in Prince Albert. Below are
the QVSC athlete's top 10 results.

Number Eight For Qu'Appelle Valley Ski Club
The top athletes in alpine ski racing from across Saskatchewan were
honoured at the annual Sask Alpine Provincial Awards Banquet held this year in
Prince Albert and hosted by the Prince Albert Ski Team. The evening began
with a wonderful meal and parents, athletes, volunteers and coaches were able to
visit one another in a warm place, as opposed to meeting in the sometimes chilly
environment on the ski hill.
Dwight Bergstrom, the evening's master of ceremonies, then introduced
"Jungle" Jim Hunter, former Olympian and member of the "Crazy
Canucks" as the Canadian Alpine Ski Team was known. Hunter gave a
motivational presentation, in which he tried to let the athletes know that if
they were persistent and worked extremely hard they could make it to the
Canadian National Alpine Ski Team - even if they were from Saskatchewan like he
was.
The ceremony then moved on to the awards presentation in which plaques were
presented to the top athletes from the Sask Cup Race Series. Pictured
below are the winners that were determined using their best seven results from
the ten Sask Cup races.

Finally, the Provincial plaque was to be presented to the club that gained the most points throughout the year. Unfortunately, the plaque was not at the banquet, however, the winning team was still announced and for the eighth straight season Qu'Appelle Valley Ski Club was called up to the stage. Kirk Cochrane was called up for recognition, then the whole QVSC team was called up for photo opportunities.

Dual Slalom Wraps Up Sask Cup Race Series
A fun day of dual slalom racing marked the end of this years race
series. QVSC athletes managed to win two of the six categories and placed
well in others. The J1/J2 women's and K2 men's groups featured all QVSC
final rounds with Rachelle Hollinger and Brady Achtymichuk coming
out on top in their respective category. The QVSC athletes placing second
from these finals were Brittany Simmons for J1/J2 women and Aaron
Fenwick for K2 men. The J1/J2 men's category also featured an all QVSC
match-up, and after two hard fought runs, Greg Godwin managed to beat out
Danny Ottenbreit for third place. Natasja Lombard raced to a
third place finish in the K2 women's group. (complete
